Personal branding is all about how you want to be perceived by others! You decide your personal brand.
But have you thought about how others perceive you?
Personal branding is the difference between getting a job… or not.
Personal branding is the difference between getting promoted... or not.
It is equally important delivering your personal brand effectively as it is to develop your personal brand
With that in mind, here is what I do to make sure that my personal brand is received correctly by others
Your personal brand does not have a day off
I had a leader at my first job who always wore a suit.
Come rain or sunshine! -10 degrees or 40 degrees outside!
He always wore a suit.
The consistency that you put to your employer brand creates trust that you are presenting an authentic version of yourself.
When people trust your authenticity, it is easier for people to trust YOU to get the job done.
If the leader would show up in jeans and t-shirt, then everyone in the team would feel like something is wrong.
Don't give others a reason to doubt you.
Your personal brand does not have a day off.
Feedback is a gift
If you are wondering what people think of you then it is best to ask for feedback from people you meet.
I can be very excited when I speak about topics that I care about but when I asked for feedback, I was told that I can be intense.
This was not at all the intention or desired brand that I wanted to present.
I asked what caused the feeling of being intense and was told that I could go on speaking about a topic in quite a professional way that it was difficult for others to participate in the conversation.

The best way to solve this? You start asking questions!
Ask questions!
I was at a networking event last week where I was asked what I do to successfully network.
My answer was to ask questions!
When I speak with someone new, I always ask them questions such as "tell me about yourself" or "what do you do?".
Most people like to talk about themselves so when you ask about what others do and get them to talk about themselves, they tend to like you.
No one wants to meet someone who only talks about themselves without allowing you to chime in. But most people want to speak with people who ask questions.
This is the best and easiest way to make sure that you personal brand is delivered and received in the way that you intended it!
