A lot of people contacted me because they wanted to find a proper job and most of the people wanted to change their career. The reasons differs from one person to another but let's all agree that changing jobs can be a little scary and risky at the same time. planning a career change can bring a lot of doubts and uncertainties.
Making a career change is a big life decision—How will you be able to change your career after a good X years of experience. the first question i ask to anyone who approaches me for guidance or advise. is the following ; why you're craving that change ? what do you miss the most at work ? if you have a chance to change anything about your job what will be your answer ? we need to understanding what is driving your decision to switch careers. Is it your line manager or your subordinate or the environment or the salary or the location or the job itself or maybe you’ve been at the same company for years and there's nothing challenging anymore, so how could we re-spark the professional drive you lost. Sometimes you don’t have to switch your career.
Always do your research for example if you're IT Specialist and you just wake up one day realizing that your true calling is to be a writer, you really need to research why you wanted to pursue this career, why now ? Conducting a research beforehand will help you figure out what you actually need to become a writer
Networking; it's really important to connect to new people and you need to talk to people who are already in the industry or field that you want to break into so that you can get more information.
Visit different websites to get more insights and read what's needed to be done to switch, in another words what are the skills needed to switch to writing.
Always offer to get experience through volunteering, to know more if writing is your passion or not, to get to know people's feedback on your work, also to put extra curriculum activities in your Cv related to what you want to pursue.
To increase your chances of success in your chosen career, you may need to update your knowledge and skills through training, workshops, certifications .. etc
Give yourself time to search for a proper job, also try to manager your expectations what it comes to title/level or salary. there are some sacrifices at the end of the day.
At the end of the day, the benefits of successfully changing careers and finally getting to do what you really want are really priceless.
