Easy Steps to Turn ONE Piece of Content into Seven (+++)!
Like a lot of kids… when I was fourteen, I had a hollow leg.?
We drove 45 minutes both ways to school so I’d have a granola bar on the way home so I’d survive the long ride. Then, before sitting down to do my homework, I’d fry up an egg, make two pieces of toast with butter, and have an apple. Maybe I’d even wash it all down with the yogurt I never ate from my lunchbox, if I was feeling extra hungry.?
Then, of course… two hours later it’d be dinner time and I’d consume even more. ??
Does it ever feel like generating content for your business is like feeding an insatiable beast? It’s like the teenage appetite that’s never satisfied!?
Coming up with social media content, blog content, and emails for your business on a regular basis can make you feel a bit like you’re a modern-day Sisyphus.?
There’s a WAY better method to this madness.?
This blog will walk you through easy content creation (yes, I said “easy” and I mean it) and hopefully inspire you to focus on creating just ONE piece of content per week that you can repurpose easily and effortlessly.?
I’m sharing the exact method I use every week when creating content and how I make my life a whole lot easier than pushing a boulder six times my size up a hill.?
This process will work especially well for you if you create a blog, email, weekly video, or podcast episode.?
What Inspired This Topic NOW?
This past year has been awesome for me, professionally and personally. I connected with A LOT of people, I went A LOT of places, and my business and brain grew by leaps and bounds.?
One thing that I discovered, however, was that in all the hustle and bustle - I spread myself a bit too thin. I went wide with my message and focus, rather than deep, and as a result, I increased my workload by needing to:?
2022 Was a year of visibility for me and I most certainly achieved the goals I set out to accomplish. I tried a lot of things, shared in many places, and in many different areas. And now I’m feeling the urge to balance it out with more intention, simplification, and ease.?
That’s what prompted me to consider this question, “Could I create just ONE piece of content a week?”?
How could I reimagine my content creation process so that I’m going DEEPER on topics and content, rather than wider??
I’ve heard from many that they’re in a similar boat! People have been asking me for tips to make content creation (and their lives) easier.?
That’s what inspired me to write this blog - which I’ll most DEFINITELY be using as a real-time way to practice what I preach and repurpose the heck out of.?
Without further ado (if you know me you know I could ado all day)...?
Let’s get into it: How to Create Just ONE Piece of Content a Week?
For anyone new to the term, let’s define what repurposing is.?
Repurposing Content: Content Repurposing, or as some like to call it “Content Recycling” is the art and science of rinsing, reusing, and recycling in order to expand your reach, double the bang for your marketing buck (not to mention your time and energy) and transform something old into something new.?
In a nutshell: If I have a blog, I can turn it into all kinds of other pieces of content so the wealth of information in the blog spreads and I can get five pieces of content out of one!?
Start with the End in Mind?
As a content writer, I plan the “rocks” or foundational pieces of my content out a month at a time.
When I sit down to map it out, I think of the goals I have for the month and the message I want my readers/listeners to glean.?
For example, the month I’m writing this is November and the theme of my month is “Systems”. By the end of the month, I want people to have a REALLY good understanding of what kinds of systems we use in our businesses and get some stress-free ways to start implementing systems and processes that increase their income and REDUCE their overwhelm.?
After I choose a focus and understand where I want to take people, I consider what I’m producing on a weekly basis and how I’m communicating this message with them throughout the month in various ways.?
To give you an idea of the content I generate on a monthly basis for myself, it’s four to five podcasts a month, two blogs, four to five emails, and an almost-daily social media post. Once in a while, I’ll do a Facebook live, but it really has to be when the mood strikes because I’m not terribly consistent when it comes to video content.?
Maybe you’re looking at this and like, “Holy crap, Emily! That’s a lot!”?
You’re right. AND, it’s way easier than you might think.?
???? Every blog for me is MULTIPLE pieces of social media content, an email, an entire podcast episode, and could even be a short video or an entire Facebook Live.?
???? Every podcast is also MULTIPLE pieces of social media content, an email, an entire blog, and could also be a short video or Facebook Live.?
????And every email… well… you get the idea…?
Maybe now you’re thinking, “But, Emily, hasn’t everyone already seen my email or heard my podcast or read my blog, and then I’m just repeating myself?”?
My answer to this is… probably not.?
Even if they’re your most loyal fan, not everyone reads your blog, listens to your podcast, saw your Facebook Live, sees your social media posts, or reads your emails.?
Your audience interacts with your content in different ways.
I know it feels uncomfortable sometimes, but believe me when I say it’s rather hard to repeat the same message too many times. A collaborator and I recently posted about a workshop we were running OVER 20 times and people still said to us, “Oh, I never saw that…”?
Furthermore, what about new members of your audience?! They might not have seen it to begin with!?
By providing it in different formats and broken down in different ways, you’re actually serving them even better by delivering it in ways that they BEST interact with your content. Plus, you’re bringing a level of cohesion to your content that will be the envy of all your entrepreneurial friends. (Please send them to this blog when that happens :))?

How to Easily Turn ONE Blog, Podcast, or Email into Seven(+) Pieces of Content?
Did you know that before you even share your blog, podcast, or email, you can start sharing the goodness inside it!??
Most blogs I write take a little time and prep. For podcasts, I’m often reading books, researching, gathering ideas, and creating questions for my guests. And for emails, I sit on story ideas for a solid week before I even start writing a single word!?
Before you even get started, you have your first piece of content for the week written!
What questions are YOU asking yourself as you write that content??
Those are GREAT questions to ask your audience as well! Or tease them a bit with an “upcoming episode” or “blog coming soon” that will solve all their problems in life.?
Realtime Example: This blog - I could ask my readers how many pieces of content they create on average a week and how long it takes them.?
After It Publishes / Airs / You Hit Send?
This is the fun part. You can turn a blog, podcast, and email into SO many other pieces of content.?
Here are just some of the things it can be:?
What else can you think of??
Here are more examples of how this could break down:?
?? Social Post: A shortened version of a story contained in the blog/podcast/email with a quick takeaway?
?? Social Post: Tip, quick win, or educational piece from the larger piece of content
?? Social Post: A post featuring an intro blurb and leading them to the content
?? Video: Dive deeper or go over the highlights!?
?? Social Graphic: Quote from the content?
?? Email: A useful piece of the content with a call to action helping them to go read/listen/watch the entire thing if they want more!
?? Podcast Episode: Share the content from the blog in a higher level way, or go even deeper on a specific piece of it!?
Here’s what I actually do on a weekly basis with many of my podcast episodes. This is all repurposed from just one episode alone:?
?? Monday: Story about how you met the guest, or backstory about why you created this episode, share a teaser about hearing the outcome soon! Sometimes the backstory is enough to be a post in and of itself.
?? Tuesday: Tip or quick win educational piece from episode - stay tuned for release tomorrow!
?? Wednesday: Share the episode itself with what’s contained and clear CTA to listen and how
?? Thursday: How the episode relates to the current theme or what you do for work with CTA that guides to service/product
?? Friday: Quote from episode
?? Saturday: Ways to help support the podcast, without even listening!
?? Sunday: Day of rest :) you deserve it?
BONUS TIP: You don’t even need to be the one CREATING the original content!?
Even if you’re a guest on someone else’s platform (ie. podcasting or speaking to an audience) you can repurpose the content!?In fact, I recommend you build it into your content plan if you do plan to be on stages and speaking on podcasts.
Every single question you get asked on a podcast can be repurposed into a social post (at least), many of them can be repurposed into an entire blog, an email, a video, or a LIVE.?
You can snag many of the ideas above to repurpose the content in the episode as well, even if you’re not the one hosting the show! Your podcast host will be ever-so-grateful if you’re a good collaborator in this way and share your heart out about the episode you were on!?

The possibilities are endless!?
