How To Make The Right Decisions

In business and in life, we are faced with decisions ALL the time. Some are easy and some not so easy.

Thinking back over my life I’ve only made one “big” decision that looking back I believe was the wrong move.?I sold Cutco knives back in college and I did very well with it.?My manager offered me the opportunity to run a branch office in a small town in Ohio during the summer of 1998 right after I graduated.

That was a very miserable summer and I wasn’t able to duplicate my personal selling success into a successful branch office. Now I’m glad I didn’t because if that office did super well I might have taken a long detour by being promoted to a district manager and spending years doing something that wasn’t God’s perfect will for me.

He Opens Doors To Greater Possibility and Joy

I couldn’t wait to close that office and move to Washington, DC where I started the journey of working in government, which I LOVED!

There was an immediate difference in my joy, peace and satisfaction.?I knew that’s where I was supposed to be.?I believe I made the wrong turn during the summer of 1998, but God helped me get back on the right path.?Thankfully that branch office was only open for a few months.

This week I was reading in the Passion Translation and this verse popped of the page.?It’s from Proverbs 23:19.

“As you listen to me, my beloved child,

????you will grow in wisdom and your heart

????will be drawn into understanding,

????which will empower you to make right decisions”

In my wrong decision in 1998 I ignored some red flags and pushed on through in my own strength.?The result was a disaster of a summer. I’m so thankful that it was only a 4 month mistake.

Now my decision making formula is pretty simple.

I listen to the Lord and don’t move unless there is peace about the decision.

He’s the genius and knows exactly what I need to do.?If life is a chess game, He sees 10 moves ahead. I pray that you’ll be empowered to make the right decisions as you listen to Him today!
