As a kid growing up in Sweetgrass First Nation. I didn't always have the best role models to show me how to succeed in life and business. I didn't even know what an entrepreneur was! As sport would later take me from hopelessness to a new found fire within, I realized that I had to use what I was good at consistently. Sports would be my gateway to take from from rez to college and eventually graduating university.
Upon graduating university, I started my first company that failed (Moose Meat Apparel - yes your read that right!). Shortly after, launching Neechie Gear which would take me from a one bedroom apartment to many retail locations and now we sell to other retailers Canada-wide. As I continued selling my products, I would get asked to speak more and more on my story and how to overcome challenges and obstacles we face as human beings. As I continued to share more and more, my passion for speaking was ignited. Don't get me wrong here, I was terrified of public speaking and just like many of us out there, I had to battle through all the stage fright and nerves.
One day in 2015, something hit me. The best way I can explain this was that it felt like I had to immediately being to work on this new project I had been wanting to get off the ground for a few years now. A keynote speaking business where I can share my message to millions of people around the globe. That was the feeling I had. Here are two simple ways I knew I made the right decision:
1) I knew immediately that I had to decide on this. I made decision that day that I was going to pursue this dream, because the fear of pain (not knowing) was becoming more and more. In 2015, I launched my speaking career and have been speaking to thousands of people each year ever since.
2) It was a growing obsession. It was an obsessive desire to get this going and the more and more I would work on it. The more I would get excited and the less significant problems and obstacles became.
The decisions you make in your life, career or business should be obsessive. If you can't see yourself enjoying the process of doing it, then don't do it! Your creativity will thrive in environments where you enjoy being at and feel appreciated for being there. I hope this small story helps you and serves you on your way to achieving your goals!
