What resources do I need for this project?
If you have ever asked yourself this question, you do know how challenging it might be to find, allocate and control where those resources go.
What do you think of when you hear “project resources”?
There are three types of resources here:
As projects are highly mobile entities, as well as their environment, it becomes extremely difficult to follow what resources were consumed by activities, and which are still available.
Modern project management tools can help.
Let us share an example of how you can control your financial resources, your costs with one of our favorite digital tools - Asana.
0. Intro
To add resource management into your Asana processes, you need a Custom Field tool.?
As we mentioned before, Asana is a highly agile tool you can easily adapt to your needs. A Custom Field makes the range of functions Asana performs for you even wider.
2. Custom your Custom Field
Unlike simple table processors, when you add a field in Asana, you can choose several parameters that establish its impact on your processes.
So, after naming the field (Costs, for instance) and putting some description for it (you want your team to understand what you mean, right?), choose the Field type.
Here are the options you will see:
For your Cost field, choose the option Number or better Currency. Then, the only value people can put there would be value, and mathematical functions will become available. You can always check the sum and the average for the column. And, as Asana is constantly developing its functionality, there might be more options in the future.
This is the simplest way to track your costs relying on per activity estimates within a project. You can always see what was spent on those tasks that have already been completed, and what costs are yet to come.?
