It’s possible to make money online without ever creating or selling a physical product of your own. If you're ready to earn an income from the comfort of your home, here are eight ways to do it. Each method is proven, accessible, and can be scaled to provide significant earnings—all without the need for inventory or shipping.
1. Affiliate Marketing of Products
Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest and most popular ways to make money online. By promoting products from brands like Amazon, Walmart, or even smaller businesses, you earn a commission every time someone buys through your referral link. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t need to create your own product—you just share products you love and believe in.
Check out affiliate programs from companies you already shop with, such as Target or Crate & Barrel. You can also become an Amazon affiliate or influencer and start making money by reviewing products you already use.
2. TikTok Shop
With TikTok Shop, you can sell products from other businesses directly within TikTok without ever handling inventory or shipping. By showcasing and promoting products in your videos, you can earn a commission every time someone purchases through your TikTok Shop. This platform has made it easy for creators to monetize their content by selling existing products.
Choose products that resonate with your audience. Create short, engaging videos that show how the product can solve a problem or enhance their life, and use TikTok’s in-app shopping features to direct viewers to purchase.
3. Digital Downloads
With digital downloads, you can sell products that customers can access instantly, such as travel guides, printable planners, or e-books. Once you create your digital product, it becomes passive income, as it can be sold over and over without any extra effort on your part.
For example, a travel guide for Paris sold on Etsy for $27 generated over $1 million in revenue after 40,000 sales. If you have expertise or unique knowledge, you can create something similar in your niche.
4. Digital Courses
If you have a skill or expertise, consider creating a digital course. People are willing to pay to learn from experts, whether it’s fitness training, video marketing, or organizing your home. Platforms like Teachable and Thinkific make it easy to create and sell online courses.
In my case, I offer a course called Vertical Video Mastery, where I teach people how to use short-form video marketing to grow their businesses. With millions of dollars in the digital course industry, this is a huge opportunity for anyone with knowledge to share.
5. Consulting
Do you have knowledge in a specific area? Consulting is a great way to monetize your expertise without creating a product. Start by offering one-on-one sessions and teaching others how to excel in your area of expertise. As you gain experience, you can increase your rates and offer packages that include longer-term support.
I began offering consulting sessions for $25 an hour and now charge $2,500 for more in-depth consulting services. You can do the same by valuing what you know and putting a price on it.
6. Affiliate Marketing of Courses
You don’t need to create a course to make money from them. Many course creators offer affiliate programs where you can promote their courses and earn a commission for every sale. For instance, if you promote my vertical video mastery $597 course you’ll earn a 30% commission, that’s nearly $180 for each person who buys through your link.
Reach out to course creators you trust and offer to promote their courses to your network. This can be a great way to make money without any of the hard work involved in creating a course yourself.
7. Brand Collaborations
Brand collaborations involve creating content to promote a product or service for a company. This could be as simple as a video or photo of you using their product. Brands pay influencers or content creators to feature their products on their social media channels.
You don’t need a huge following to get started. Brands are often looking for people who align with their target audience and can authentically represent their products.
8. UGC (User-Generated Content)
User-generated content is similar to brand collaborations, but the difference is you don’t have to post the content on your social media. Instead, you create content for brands to use on their platforms. This is perfect for people who aren’t influencers but can create high-quality videos or photos.
As a UGC creator, you don’t need a large following, just the ability to produce great content. Many brands are willing to pay for well-made videos and photos to promote their products.
