According to?Google, mentorship is a period of time during which a person receives guidance from a mentor.
Mentors should see and lead people as they can be not as they are and this should be the goal of every leader in every organization.
Unfortunately, most people are chasing success and not helping others succeed yet helping others get ahead builds a leadership base in every organization and strengthens teams.
If you want to succeed as a mentor, you should first seek to understand yourself and then you will understand others because we can’t give what we don’t have.
?The role of every mentor should be to help equip people they mentor with tools to optimize their work experience and succeed in their careers. This entails specific training because most people learn best when they hear, see, speak, and act.
Here is how to ensure that your mentoring is successful. ?
1.?????Prioritize people’s development - Even though it is easier to let people go when they fail to measure up, your organization’s success depends on helping employees achieve their goals and their full potential.
2.?????Limit whom you get on board for mentoring - You won’t have time to mentor everyone so choose the people with the highest desire to be mentored. You can’t want someone to succeed more than they want to. ?
3.?????Develop good relationships before starting out as mentoring works best when the mentor and mentee have a good relationship.

4.?????Give help unconditionally without expecting anything in return other than commitment.
5.?????Let them fly with you for a while - Mentees will learn best when they see their mentors in action. Explain and share what you are doing to teach by example.
6.?????Fuel their tank by providing all the resources that they need. Not just some of the resources.
7.?????Clear the flight path ensuring that they are ready to fly before letting them go solo.
8.?????Help them repeat the process by encouraging them to mentor someone else. This will help them improve as well in areas they are lacking.
