How to make hiring more secure

How to make hiring more secure

Although a tight labor market has made the search for talent an urgent priority for many companies, recruiters can’t afford to compromise on security to bring candidates on board more quickly. It may be tempting for recruiters to loosen their vetting processes a bit in an effort to widen the talent pipeline, but considering the fact that the direct cost of a bad hire is roughly one-third of the candidate’s first-year earnings – plus the opportunity cost of skipping over more qualified candidates – this is a mistake.?

Bad hires can also stay at a company for years, inflicting damage on the culture and failing to work as productively as their colleagues. In some cases, new employees simply don’t have the skills necessary to do the job – a job they were awarded because they lied on their resume. These are all reasons for companies and candidates to focus on making the hiring process more secure, and there are many ways they can do so:

  • Vet candidates with objective and predictive hiring tools like skills assessments and structured interviews. Hiring managers are placing less faith in application materials that can be exaggerated or fraudulent, such as resumes and cover letters. Candidates should welcome this shift, as conventional hiring methods like resumes are notoriously susceptible to bias, while unstructured interviews are incapable of accurately determining which candidates will perform well on the job.?

  • Recruiters have an increasingly specific idea of what they’re looking for. Hiring resources like assessments and structured interviews require recruiters to develop a concrete set of criteria they can use to objectively and consistently evaluate each candidate. This removes personal prejudice and preferences from the hiring process, which allows candidates to focus on developing their skills without worrying about the subjective impressions of interviewers.?

  • Blockchain-based hiring tools make talent acquisition more secure. The blockchain allows companies to verify the authenticity of document submissions, work experience, and projects candidates have completed. Automating tasks such as document retrieval will also give recruiters more time to research and communicate with potential hires. While many aspects of the hiring process are becoming systematic and objective, human judgment will always be a critical part of this process – the blockchain allows recruiters to make decisions on the basis of reliable and secure information.?

A secure hiring process protects candidates and companies. Whether hiring managers verify a candidate’s qualifications on the blockchain or evaluate their skills with pre-employment assessments, the result will be a fair and transparent hiring process that allows job-seekers to showcase their abilities and enables companies to make better hiring decisions.
