How to make £1 million running an electrician company

It's not a sexy revelation. It's not going to set the world on fire.
But if you want to make £1 million as the boss of something like an electrician company, there's one specific aspect of your business you need to focus on.
Some might tell you it's your marketing. Some might say training is more important than anything else. Others might say sales.
Of course, they're all right. Each of these represents a key process that you need to test, and iterate on, and test again to improve.
Yet there's one thing you should be aiming for as you develop each of these processes in your never-ending quest for perfection.
It's repetition. More accurately, it's repeatable quality.
Repetition's role in growing your business
Some people are proud of how hard they work to deliver their business's services. That can be a good thing. It's good to get some personal satisfaction out of the good work you do lighting and heating people's homes.
But wouldn't it be good if instead of working "hard", you could work "easy"? And still, get the same satisfaction.
That's why developing systems that enable you to deliver repeatable quality is so important. Especially if you want to work towards a goal like earning your first £1 million.
It's something we learned building Fantastic Services from our initial team of five to the 500+ professionals and 530+ franchisees we are today. We couldn't just improve the services we offer. We needed to develop a way that allowed us to deliver that increased quality repeatably.
Our clients needed to be in no doubt of the quality they would get by using us. Quality in terms of the training of our teams. In terms of the way the results we deliver match our marketing. And so on.
When repeatability needs to become teachable
This became even more apparent once we started franchising. Because then not only did we need to be able to reliably produce results at these high standards. We also needed to be able to reliably teach systems for how others could repeatably produce them.
They say that if you can't teach someone something simply, you don't understand it well enough. That certainly holds true in our experience.
To be able to teach every single one of our hundreds of franchisees – many of whom deliver electrical services like heating, lighting, re-wiring – how to handle their operations, improve their systems, and so on, we had to break down how we were delivering our services to the real basics. The absolute fundamentals of what we were doing to deliver quality.

How to work on your repeatability
You can't just flick a switch and suddenly be delivering better quality, repeatably. It takes effort. It takes an ego-free analysis of how you're delivering your services. Of which elements lead to quality, which don't, and what need to be improved so that they do.
Only by analysing the key aspects of how you deliver your services, your MOSS – your Marketing, Operations, Systems, Sales – only by breaking them down to fundamentals, can you develop set processes that will let you work easier, work smarter, and deliver that reliable quality that you and your clients both want to see.
Once you know the basic “ingredients” of your quality, like a recipe, they're something you can repeat and deliver over and over again.
No time to save time
Obviously, there's a big hurdle that prevents most people who run electrician businesses from doing any of this.
Running this kind of business can be intense. It can be hugely demanding of your time. Especially if you're beholden to an online platform or marketplace where you feel you can never say “no” to an offer of business, even if your schedule is already well and truly packed.
In other words, you don't have the time available to save yourself time by doing any of this. Plus, some ways you know you'd like to improve your service might only be possible if you had more support.
I've banged the drum of franchising enough to let you know I believe there is a solution to this problem. One where you get that support – and you benefit from a team of experts having already done all of that analysis and breakdown to determine exactly the best way to deliver electrical services like yours for you.
Aim for repetition, achieve quality
If there's one thing that's been proved to me over the years of growing Fantastic Services it's that the quality of the services you deliver is nothing if you can't achieve that quality repeatably.
The only way to achieve that repeatability is to break down your processes for marketing, operations, sales, systems, and more until you know the key elements of what you're doing to achieve that quality.
It's not then as simple as rinse and repeat. It still takes effort. But armed with this data – whether you get it through joining a franchise or through your own extra hours of sweat and hard work in analysis – you can then start to work easier and smarter.
Do you agree? Is there something you think hits the target better than repetition?
