Architect as a discipline and career is tough. It is common to hear someone from the industry say that if one pursues architecture, one will not particularly have a life outside of their work. And well, that’s unfortunate but true.?

Work-life balance is a key part of self-care when juggling the responsibilities of your workday, home life, and relationships with your family members and other loved ones. Taking breaks when one feels the need to is important. It prevents burnout and, with breaks, it allows us to have space to fall more in love with our jobs. The better the quality of your life is the better we are at what we do at work.

To keep growing as a designer, do this:

  1. Understand your limits and say no to work you cannot handle
  2. Draw a line and voice out
  3. Prioritize your well-being and use the weekends for rejuvenation
  4. Money is important but so is your health
  5. Ask for workplace flexibility and focus on output-driven work
  6. Practice self-compassion and network outside your profession more often
