How To | LOSE a $70,000+ Flying Position

The other day, I was catching up with an old Army Buddy who recently transitioned out of the Army and he tells me this story of how he was just hired by MEDEVAC company.

He said it was down to him and another guy. The other guy did great on the written exam, phone interview, the flight, and all he had to do was have a final phone conversation with the company's chief pilot and it would be a lock.

However...when the chief pilot asked a question we've all heard before on check rides, the guy tossed out a joke.

Well, the joke lost him a job.

Shame

Imagine the shame this guy feels knowing that he lost this job because of a stupid remark.

I'm sure he didn't go back to his family, look them in the eye, and tell them the truth of how he blew this chance for all of their fulfillment. You and I know he is going to keep this to himself.

Personality over Paperwork

This is a great example of how employers value your personality over your paperwork.

Sure, your paperwork needs to be in order but your personality is going to be the greatest factor in the fulfillment level of any possible positions.

People in Your Corner

This is also a great example of why you need people in your corner. If this guy had an Agent, like me, working for and with him, he could have avoided this or, at least, survived the joke and still landed the job.

However, he didn't have an Agent nor is he one of my clients.

So, my friend is the lucky pilot who landed the job and begins training Monday. My friend is also on my calendar to discuss further our ability to work together so he may be one of my next clients.

Don’t leave us hanging. What was the joke?
