How To Look At Your Fears In A Different Light
JourneyNorth Podcast | Season 01 | EP 07
Have you ever felt paralysed by fear?
Have you ever stopped yourself from doing what you truly wanted, simply because you were fearful of judgement or failure?
In this episode, we speak to Janice, who broke through her fears to create the life she truly wanted. Despite doing well in her corporate role, Janice felt that it wasn’t as fulfilling as it could be. With that realisation, she decided to quit her 9-5 and became an entrepreneur.
Who Is Janice Tee?
Janice Tee works with millennial entrepreneurs (coaches, marketers, and consultants) to brand and build their businesses digitally, get clients, and get paid!
From zoning in to your unique profitable niche in a crowded market, to knowing who exactly you’re selling to, to creating content that attracts your dream clients and generates demand for your sales, to building a sales funnel that converts your audience to paying clients, to becoming a sales master and closing that PAID client deal, and more.
Janice teaches the EXACT step by step strategy, call scripts, branding strategy and marketing pitches she used to make 4 figures per sale in less than 90 days.
It’s not that we don’t know what we want to do, but it’s more like fear that’s stopping us from doing it.

4 Questions To Ask Yourself If You’re Contemplating To Leave Your 9-5
Leaving your 9-5 can be a very scary decision. It involves a whole lot of consideration and self-reflection to understand your true motivations and the potential consequences of your decision.
Here are 4 questions Janice asked herself when she was faced with that dilemma:
Do you want your boss’s job?
The natural next progression in the corporate world is your boss’s or your director’s job, so if that isn’t what you want, there is little point in staying to work towards something you don’t desire.
Where do you want to be, and are your daily actions leading towards that goal?
Is there an end goal you’re working towards? Becoming a YouTuber? Or a baker? If so, are the things you’re working on a daily basis helping you work towards that end goal? It it’s not, then you probably want to reconsider your current trajectory.
What are your costs to stay, and your costs to leave?
This is about weighing the benefits and costs of your decision. Just as there are costs associated with leaving, there are costs arising from inaction as well.
Are there any major push factors?
Is there anything in your job that is “soul-destroying”? Janice mentioned unethical deeds as an example of such push factors that goes against your values and morals.
I believe these questions can be applied to other scenarios as well, and not just those who are thinking of leaving their 9-5.
Failure Is “On Your Way” To Success
Janice brought up this really interesting example that helps to put fear and failure into perspective. You should treat failure as a lesson that indicates you’re on your way to success.
Visualise a line, and on this line, there’s failures, roadblocks, anxiety…and all these things are what you’ll face on your journey towards success and where you want to eventually be. By internalising this concept, a lot of the challenges you face will no longer seem as huge of a problem anymore!
Putting Your Problems Into Perspective
Sometimes, things happen to us that makes us feel like the whole world is against us.
“Why is this only happening to me?”
“Why is it that others are able to attain such great success, while I’m still stuck at this phase of my life?”
More often than not, it’s just our own inner demons trying to bring ourselves down. In these instances, it’s important to stay cognizant of what the bigger picture is, and see your problem for what it truly is.
Gratitude plays a big part in this as well, where you should remind yourself of what you DO have, instead of what went wrong in one isolated incident. After all, most of us still have a roof above our heads, family and friends to turn to, and it’s important to recognise that those problems will eventually be dealt with.
Personal Thoughts
It’s clear that Janice is a huge action-taker, and it’s inspiring to see her chase the life she desires, even at such a young age. As I interview more and more people, a common characteristic of these go-getters are their mindset and commitment to growth.
Interviews like this remind me that every day counts, and that if you put your heart to something, things will eventually pan out the way it should for you.
