How Long Should Your EAP Be?
Aaron L. Witt, Active Threat Consultant

What is your opinion on how long an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) should be? Is there a direct correlation between the number of pages and whether your employees are likely to read and retain the information? Can we all agree that pictures, diagrams, and checklists can help transform a boring document into a valuable quick-reference guide? These are some of the topics we discussed earlier this week during a breakout session at the Michigan Library Association (MLA) 2023 Annual Conference. A-Train Tactical, LLC was honored to present in front of a group of energetic individuals who were willing to share some of their real-world experiences. A-Train Tactical is also associated with the Active Shooter Prevention Project (ASPP), LLC, a group of Subject Matter Experts across the country who are working hard to help stop active shooter incidents by focusing on PREVENTION first.

1 年Great discussion topic with a great visual orientation, Aaron! Creating something more than a boilerplate document that is not tailored to the facility or organization will not increase safety or reduce risk by very much. Alternatively, a well-intended document that attempts to cover everything, in as much detail as possible, isn't likely to be reviewed... and the knowledge contained within that document will be forgotten when it is most likely needed. Consider a hybrid: a base document with specific, visual reference guides for critical safety actions.
