We had an aha moment during our weekly coaches call the other day...
How many people do you know have been trying to lose weight for years?
How many YEARS have you or someone you know been eating in a caloric deficit, restricting food?in an effort to lose weight?
What does that do to someone mentally (the impact of spending so much precious brain space trying to lose weight) and physically (the impact of eating less than you're burning and experiencing the yo-yo effect of restriction followed by binge eating)?
How long should someone stay in a caloric deficit?
This is something that is not discussed enough by health and fitness professionals, so let's get into it!
If you read one of our past newsletters, you know that TDEE stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure.?
And while yes, it's true that you need to be in a caloric deficit to lose weight...
Your body does NOT want to eat less than it’s burning for very long!
For most of your life, you should be eating the same amount that you’re burning.
This is called maintenance.
Beyond nutritional deficiencies, hormone imbalances and poor mood, constantly trying to lose weight by eating less and less leads to the saddest experience of all:
Missing out on life because your mind is consumed with thoughts about food, your body image, weight, how much you need to exercise for “being bad”, and comparing yourselves to others.
Instead of being present, you:
Play small.
Dim your light.

And fail to recognize that your value and worth has nothing to do with how you look.
And yet, ironically, when you start focusing on how things make you FEEL...
And start thinking about NOURISHING yourself (and not just from food!)…
Your body will find its natural, preferred weight and release stored body fat.
We believe this also releases old beliefs and past versions of yourself that no longer serve you.
Weight loss is a bonus outcome for many?people who join our 12-week Awaken Your Nutrition program, but it’s certainly not the main reason they reach out to us.
People?are exhausted, under nourished, and traumatized from diet dogma.
Many were raised in the 80s and 90s to believe that skinny was the ideal… that we just need to work harder, exercise more and eat less.
And that’s the problem. That’s why they’re stuck.
People?want to get back their previous time and brain space that has been hijacked by years of restriction, over exercising and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
This is not about a number on the scale.
This is about creating a life you love because your mind is free from the prison of judgment and restriction.
This is about who you will become when you are no longer confined by “good and bad” food and start thinking about NOURISHMENT.
