How Long Should My Camera Last?

One of the most frustrating things in the world has to be when a beloved piece of electronic equipment dies. It’s almost like losing a member of your family because you have grown so attached to it. When you spend hard earned money on something then its only right that it lasts for a long time isn’t it? But how long is a long time?

 One of the biggest causes of electrical malfunctions happens because the equipment is left to gather dust for too long. Dust gets everywhere and fast! I clean out my camera once a week and use it everyday…nearly.

 Another big cause is condensation inside the equipment. On a DSLR this is even more important because of all the glass. Condensation occurs when elements change quickly i.e. hot to cold or cold to hot. I find that if I’m shooting at night I stay in a warm place for a while then brave the weather then go back to heat up again. This is when your lens can ‘fog up’.
