HOW LONG SHOULD I KEEP DOING fit20 TRAINING FOR?

Sometimes training can feel like an uphill struggle. Motivation comes and goes. And even though we know we should exercise, it’s not always clear what we’re getting from it. Especially when not all the benefits of fit20 training are immediately obvious from the outside.

OUR MUSCLES ARE USE IT OR LOSE IT

Beyond the age of 35 we lose strength and muscle mass at around 1% per year. This is partly due to the natural ageing process, but partly due to how little we challenge our muscles in a regular, meaningful way.

We don’t always appreciate how important strength is until we lose it. Strength allows us to:

  • Remain active and involved with our children & grandchildren
  • Continue the leisure activities we enjoy
  • Walk for miles without breaks on holiday
  • Get up and down the stairs, in and out of the car and maintain our physical independence
  • Feel confident about our muscle tone & body shape

MAKE YOUR BODY THE BEST IT CAN BE

The goal with fit20 training is to get your body to be as strong and healthy as it can be for your age, body type and genetics.

Once you reach your genetic potential, you want to ‘cruise at altitude’. Here, you stay as strong as possible for you age and body type. Compared to others your age you’ll notice you will be gaining health, strength and vitality.

..THEN CRUISE AT ALTITUDE!

  • The top line represents preservation of strength and muscle mass over time with weekly fit20 training
  • The bottom line represents the rapid loss of strength and muscle mass without weekly fit20 training

You can see the story of what happens to untrained individuals (see bottom line in the graph). Beyond middle age they soon fall below suboptimal daily functioning and by age 50 below the lower level of optimal daily functioning. The good news is doing regular strength training:

1.    Gets you closer to your genetic potential.

2.    Creates a natural buffer to keep your body looking and working its best.

3.    Keeps you able to do the things you love to do.

In short, strength training should be for life!
