How Local Beers Are Brewing Up a Thirst for Outback Queensland ??
Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning
Today we're celebrating #InternationalBeerDay by raising a glass to Central Western Queensland, where locals are enjoying beers to literally call their own!
With Queensland Government support, the Central West Queensland RAPAD - Remote Area Planning and Development Board founded CWQ Brewing Co in 2021, with the goal to establish a regionally owned and operated brewery, run and owned by the people of Central Western Queensland, with profits retained and shared within the region.?
Late in 2021, in what will be Australia's most remote beer production facility, three beer brands were brewed up celebrating some of Australia's most remote towns: Barcaldine, Longreach and Winton Lagers. The label designs were based on stories of local history, and developed by local communities.
What's even more local? Each beer was only available in limited quantities from the town that shared its name! Unsurprisingly, the beers quickly became collector's items among locals and tourists alike and quickly sold out.
With a further $90,000 in Queensland Government support, this month CWQ Brewing Co is a step closer to its goal, releasing a new range of beers, celebrating the Shires of Boulia, Barcoo, Blackall-Tambo and Diamantina.
As ever, the success of this new range of lagers will be due to the locals each can represents - town historians, publicans and everyday community members of Central Western Queensland who have played a part in the research, design and production of each beer.

More than 20,000 cans of the new lagers have just been delivered to 21 pubs, licensed operators and tourism venues across Central Western Queensland - a journey encompassing seven Local Government Areas covering a combined 396,000kms, or 22.9% of the land area of the entire state!
With enquiries about the new cans already rolling in, it might just be time for a road trip to some amazing outback towns to see the sights, marvel at the sunsets, and take home some of Australia’s most collectible beer cans, all while supporting innovation and employment in regional Queensland.
You'll not only get an unforgettable experience, you'll also be supporting the great work of Remote Area Boards in representing their local regional areas and identifying and delivering projects that fit with their economic priorities.
We'll drink to that!
