How Loan Officers Can Get the Most Out of Their Online Connections

You could have 10,000 connections throughout your online networks, but that number won’t matter much if you don’t know what to do with them. Having thousands of online connections certainly looks impressive, but it can actually be impressive if you learn how to develop substantive relationships with those contacts. It’s not a mystery, we just need to need to treat our online connections the same way we treat our offline connections — by making an effort to develop the relationships. Here are some tips for loan officers to get the most out of their online connections:?

?

Reach Out

Every social-media site you’re using has a private messenger option, which will make it very easy for you to initiate conversations with your contacts. You’ll already have real-world relationships with some of them, which makes it natural to start a conversation with that group. For the others though, it will be up to you to come up with a way to spark conversation. One advantage is that using the messenger built into the apps is closer to a real conversation than sending emails back and forth. You just need to be present to respond the replies when you receive them. if you don’t respond promptly, the other persona can perceive that as disinterest on your part. If you keep the notifications enabled, you’ll be alerted whenever there’s a new message.

?

Stay Active Online

Let your connections see that you’re active by maintaining a consistent presence online. Posting regularly allows you to stay front and center with your connections. You’re also giving your connections an opportunity to get to know you, even when you’re not engaging with them individually. Staying active online shows that you’re committed to the work you do and the community you’re building (more on that later).

?

Give Back

Your main motivation for developing your network is to grow your own business, but it can’t be all about you. Think about what you can do to help your connections, too. If some of your contacts are active online, show your appreciation by liking or commenting on their posts. Sharing what other post with your own network makes a big impression, and those people will likely do the same for you in return.

?

Build a Community

After mentioning this earlier, I wanted to dive a little deeper on the topic. If we’re spending time building these online relationships, then we should create an environment that promotes that growth. Share your thoughts with your connections, request information from them and ask questions — this is how you can build a community of like-minded connections. When you encourage discussion and help others get involved, you’ll create a forum where your connections feel welcome and comfortable participating.?

?

Your online networks can’t just be about numbers. These ideas will help you start creating real, mutually beneficial relationships.

I’m happy to talk more about this if you want to reach out to me. I’ll include my contact info below.

Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think or if there’s anything I missed.
