The objective should be “Do not be just good. Be great and strive to be the Best”.
There is something wonderful in all of us, but we are oblivious of that. We go on accumulating lots of thoughts and information that seldom matter in our life that deviate us from the track that we ought to travel and experience the best form that we deserve. We lose our originality and pureness amidst the heap of debris.
An individual’s background and grooming certainly play a part, but they are not the only elements that enable you to live a great life. More important is realizing the self potential, which drives the individual through an exciting and fulfilling journey of life.
Spotting your strong likings and working out your life objective based on them provides the ultimate gratification of leading a great life. Gradually, you touch different milestones of success, the most exciting part of this journey.
There are well defined steps that will lead you to the path of living a great life, the first being carving your life to give a new dimension.
First Section - Carve your life
“You have to create YOUR life. You have to carve it like a sculpture” – William Shatner
Threadbare and wretched, the man limped along the alleys kicking up dust in a cold December morning. The man had a face with nothing exceptional about it, but somehow it was beaming with a different kind of love for life. A leather case slackly hung around his shoulder. He stopped in front of a flimsy structure at the corner of the city-square and unlocked the doorway. It was a workshop with several semi finished sculpting work spread across the room. He selected an unfinished piece that just had a preliminary touch and set out for work with intense concentration. With his eyes focused and narrowed down to thin slits of passion, his hands started moving with a hammer and chisel. Gradually, the face appeared with a finite shape with a sharp chin and aquiline nose. But could this man manage the eyelashes on granite? This was outstanding.
Words of applause broke out from the curious onlookers and passersby with encouraging statements flying towards him. The sculptor lit a bidi and broke his silence showing his badly tobacco stained teeth. “It is not the creation that has drawn your interest gentlemen; it is the deletion of unwanted parts. The beauty was inherent in the stone; I just trimmed off the unwanted fragments". He took a long drag of puff and concentrated in his work oblivious of the swelling crowd that whispered applause and moved in closer mesmerized by the amazing work of art in progress.
Your own self is like a piece of rock waiting for a master sculptor to work on chiseling off the unwanted parts so that what is left is amazing. It is just like what the sculptor has opined, our lives too have inherent qualities that often remain trapped under piles of unwanted information or useless thoughts forming an ugly coat over an undiscovered masterpiece. Heaps of psychological rubbish enwraps our minds dampening our spirit blocking the sheen.
You are the stone and you are the sculptor. You take the hammer and chisel and chip off the unwanted debris. Man cannot remake himself unless he suffers and works hard with the hammer and chisel.
Let me take a simple example. I used to watch my kids when they started walking. It is such an inspiring action. The child tries hard but topples over. He gets hurt but tries again. He does not blame anyone nor does he criticize. His mind is pure and creative devoid of any unwanted thoughts. He doesn’t carry any opinion but only have sheer energy and creativity. He doesn’t need any demonstration of placing the steps but his inbuilt energy motivates him gradually to take confident steps in walking.
We too have the ultimate power. Our inner strength is more than enough to carve out a meaningful life. But we have gathered so many information and opinions that we forget our original creativity. We listen to others. We cite excuses. We follow others footsteps without realizing that those steps may not lead to our selected destination. We start living many lives but not our own that we desire the most.
The essence of carving out a king size life is to realize the inherent strength in us cutting off the unwanted things.
Second Section - Discover Yourself
Let’s take another example. In an auditorium filled with 500 people, some information is being delivered. Everybody is seeing the same demonstrations and listening to the same words but do all accept the information from the same angle? The thoughts of a person at that moment will vary widely from those of the person sitting beside him.
Each of us process information available to us in a different way. Our thought process and perception vary. To some of us, a piece of information is just a mental record of a fact that gradually fades away with the passage of time. There is nothing significant in it whereas, to others, the same information can create a huge impact.
Channelized thinking - Spotting the opportunity:
Seemingly less significant information can be of immense value to the individuals who are able to find great opportunities in it. Their perception helps in right processing of the information where he can reap immense benefits in the future.
Discover yourself through focused thinking:
Develop clarity in your thoughts. Engage your mind properly to find out your hidden traits. Assessment of self potential is of crucial importance. The tragedy is that most of us fail to discover these and our lives are spent not even using an iota of this which gets buried in the end.
Your life is the most precious asset – Love it and nurture it to the best:
Being thankful to God for this valuable gift of life is not enough. We should learn to live life to the fullest giving due care of our likes and dislikes exploring our potential. Being expressive brings out your true personality not by suppressing the feelings and emotions.
Cultivate your potential through your likes and dislikes:
One should learn to articulate and do all that fascinate him. All that art and skills that are innate to you must be practiced and sharpened so that they give you an important niche fetching respect and recognition. This yields self confidence which inspires you to perform even better. Deftness is elastic by nature, the more you use it the better it gets taking you to new heights of success.
Love the personality in you:
Love all the traits that you could find in yourself. Nobody is hundred percent perfect. Accept your negativities in the right spirit and work on them to minimize their effects. Listen to your heart first and not other’s minds. Speak for yourself and never let anyone else do that for you. This way you carve out a unique position for you.
Build your image through self cultivation:
Work for your self-development not for others. This is the stepping stone towards image building and personality branding that gives you a respectable position among your peers and in the society.
Feel the thrill through challenges:
Challenges build you better. Never ever run away from them. Develop a strategy to surmount them. Success is the sweetest fruit of your toil and efforts, but if failure waits at the end, accept that sportingly including the pain that accompanies. This adds strength to your integrity in character that will help you emerge victorious in the next challenging venture.
Avoid expecting the unexpected:
However, do not expect miracles in your life. They never happen. It’s your sheer efforts and cultivation of traits that would produce miraculous effects. You need to strive every inch and focus on efforts that could really make your life journey better.
Just take it seriously that what you are today is what you chose to be yesterday. There is hardly any role for fate to play in your life. It is you who is the master architect of your life. It is your hammer and chisel that has carved for you a life that you desired to see. Let this desire be great. Let it sculpt for you a life that the society would respect.
As the famous quote says: “When you are living the best version of yourself, you inspire others to live the best versions of themselves”. – Steve Meraboti
