How LinkedIn Learning started: Lessons learned from tech giants transmogrification.

We'll love to take our time to trace back the history of this powerful educational platform which was birthed by one of the highly leveraged social media platforms by businesses and the exclusive brand LinkedIn.

Let's take a look at the categories of open online courses that are been provided through this educational medium. There are about three exclusive course categories on LinkedIn; Creative, Business and Technology.

It's been proven that these courses are taught by certified industry experts in creative, software, and business skills.

The aim of this American Massive open online course provider - LinkedIn Learning, is to make it easier for people who wish to major in a particular niche to have a conducive environment that permits them to learn from home, and go about their daily business while achieving their goals.

In about 1995 in Ojai, California, LinkedIn Learning formally known as Lynda.com was founded. Lynda Weinman, a special effects animator and multimedia professor alongside her husband, artist Bruce Heavin, founded and created this platform to serve as online support for their books and classes. It was registered under Lynda.com.

Lynda.com officially kicked off in 2002 and began offering courses online.?By 2004, they had recorded about 100 successful courses taught and mastered online. In 2008, Lynda.com moved to the creation of producing documentaries on creative leaders, artists, and entrepreneurs.

In 2013, the learning platform started accepting partnerships and had two recognized companies, Accel Partners and Spectrum Equity invest in her. It received about $103 million in growth following an additional contribution from Meritech Capital Partners.

On January 14, 2015, Lynda.com announced to the public its current investment with a group known as TPG capital which amounts to about $186 million in financing.?There were many other growth announcements brought to light by the platform.?One of the most notable dates will be the 13th of June, 2016, when Microsoft announced, that it would acquire Lynda.com's parent company LinkedIn for a whopping sum of $26.2 billion.

The acquisition and ownership were completed on December 8, 2016.?LinkedIn Learning was fully birthed in October 2017 when lynda.com was merged and renamed.?

In 2019, the educational platform faced criticism due to its requirements which stated that users who wish to have access to LinkedIn Learning will have to create a LinkedIn profile.?This became an issue as this was the only criterion required by users to use the services of the e-learning platform.

However, librarians in America and the American Library Association disagreed with this decision.?Their complaints were looked into and put into consideration by the educational body starting in March 2021 when libraries began to migrate to LinkedIn Learning without requiring them to create a LinkedIn profile.

Lynda.com has been permanently shut down since June 2, 2021, and is now redirected to LinkedIn Learning.

Now that we have followed through with the amazing growth process of this amazing e-learning platform, we'll want to take a look at the goals and objectives behind this establishment. It's been proven that the world is successfully evolving into the digital space at a rapid pace.

?LinkedIn Learning is aimed at helping people discover and develop their skills through a personalized, data-driven, goal-oriented learning experience. This will enable individuals to achieve their objectives and professional aspirations.

I knew of Lynda.com a few years ago, but I didn't know that it had evolved into LinkedIn Learning. After taking a couple of courses on LinkedIn Learning, it's safe to say that it is one of the best places to learn new skills and ideas. However, the ability to add your certifications to your LinkedIn profile is a game-changer and provides a great moat for users to use the platform. Great post Iam Chijamz

LinkedIn learning is a great avenue that has enabled many individuals gain insights and more information on various niches. I took some Lynda.com courses then and I must say they are top-notch and helped me a lot. I guess one thing constant is growth, and adapting to the new world. Glad to see they acceded to people's requests for not having an account first before learning is accessible!
