Social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, or Snapchat built for you to consume content. They are populated and fueled by individuals who look for distraction or gossip. And the truth is, I was one of them for a very long time.
I am not ashamed of it, I don't regret it. But I've moved on, and so should you.
LinkedIn, on the other hand, changed my mindset from a 'content consumer' to a 'content creator.' I started thinking critically about the passions and pursuits that populate the minds of people on this platform.
LinkedIn is the social media of dreamers and do-ers, leaders and learners, observers and enthusiasts. In other words, there is a reason why YOU are on LinkedIn reading this article. And the reason is very simple: you want more from your life.
Some of you want to figure out what your dreams are, others want to see them come true. Many know they want to make a difference. But few know how to do it. This is when LinkedIn brings to surface another outstanding cultural feature for its platform.
Engaged LinkedIn Influencers are not only vastly respected by their connections, they are also the first ones to encourage their followers to become more 'LinkedIn active.'
One example of an amazing LinkedIn advocate is Manu 'Swish' Goswami. Canada Top 20 Under 20, Startup Canada Young Entrepreneur of the Year, UN Youth Ambassador, and TEDx Speaker among many other things. His best qualities, however, have nothing to do with him founding tens of companies and representing hundreds of young students.
'Swish' has made it his 'LinkedIn mission' to get others (just like myself) to share their perspective, thoughts, and dreams on this platform. I thank Manu infinitely for pushing me to do this.
It came to a point where I felt the need to influence people, create ideas, and generate innovative content.
It is now my turn to encourage each and everyone of you to do the same. Beat your 'keyboard shyness' and start MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD! (Possibly through LinkedIn).

7 年It's a very cool thing when established writers cultivate and encourage emerging writers. Even those that don't want to call themselves "writers" can experiment on a platform like this through thoughtful comments, long form posts and maybe even try an article just as you have! When I started writing on here I was kind of scared to push that "publish" button but there were a number of connections who encouraged and even read over drafts for me. You never forget those people ??
