How Lindsey transformed her look in under 30 Seconds

How Lindsey transformed her look in under 30 Seconds

Lindsey had reached a point where her career outpaced her style.?

She was at a higher level career-wise than her style aligned to and felt her style was too much like a uniform that lacked personality.

The great thing was Lindsey already had great pieces in her wardrobe.

So in order to take her look from average to awesome, it came down to the strategic and technical elements of dressing to bring it all together.

The best part is that these changes can easily be made in 30 seconds or less.

Here’s the breakdown of what we did to elevate her look and why:

What worked:

  • Fit of the pants: The cropped hem ended at the ankle and above the shoe creating a clean look and the slightly flared bottom balances the hip
  • Fit of the top: The cut drapes over her figure and compliments the natural curve of her shoulders and torso without any pulling or added bulk
  • Pointed toe shoe in the same colour as hemline to visually extend the leg
  • Colour: The blue background compliments her natural colouring and brightens her face
  • Size of the print: The medium size print throughout the blouse compliments the scale of her height and bone structure.

What could be better:

  • Proportions: The hem of the shirt cuts her vertical proportions in half which isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing
  • Visual message could be more authoritative: The unstructured blouse on it’s own conveys a more casual,? laid-back and young style rather than the appearance of someone in leadership
  • Outfit looks incomplete: Without a third piece, the top and bottom look like separate pieces that don’t relate to each other.

Change #1: Tuck in top

Why?

  • Tucking in the blouse creates the ‘Golden Ratio’ for vertical proportions. The Golden ratio is always unequal proportions which as most aesthetically pleasing; in this case the upper to lower proportion is 1:2.
  • Tucking in the top also creates flattering definition at the waist, drawing the eye above the widest part of her hip.

Change #2: Add a layer(blazer)

Why??

  • Blazers are a visual symbol of authority, especially when it’s structured. This blazer gives her more visual authority while still looking approachable because of the colour and texture

  • This blazer completes the look because the coral colour relates to the coral print in the blouse while coordinating well with the refinement and style of the pants.

See how that works?

Dressing is an art and a science so never underestimate the way small changes contribute to the overall cohesiveness and visual impact of your look.

What small changes can you implement to bring your look from average to awesome?
