How is it like working in Reckitt?
With a role in Talent Acquisition, the one question I always get asked by candidate is “How is it like working in your company?”. You can imagine a thousand different ways to rephrase this question, but in essence, candidates are keen to know the CULTURE in Reckitt. They probably have heard something from someone (who may or may not work here before) or formed an impression based on how we position ourselves in the market. But they still hope to get some insights to confirm their perception.
In my humble opinion, People and Process form the two biggest elements of company’s culture.
1) People: People that can directly impact you as an employee will be your manager, your peers or your direct reports.
In Reckitt, you may not have the best manager or the best team of the world to start with. But you’ll have a role to play to make the people better. It can be coaching, it can be mentoring, it can even be just giving a piece of feedback. Think about what you can do when you see your manager is struggling or your team is stressed out. Are you heading the direction to make it worse or are you working on a probably very small step to make a slight improvement? After all, let’s be realistic, we all have limitation of what we are able to do. But the key is, you are making effort and you are not giving up.
That’s the energy we would love to see in Reckitt!
2) Process: It could mean the technology, systems , SOPs, (we love this word, aren’t we?), tools, operations, etc.
Well, I must admit we also do not have the best-in-class process in place. But this is also the beauty of working here. You get to experiment things, explore new opportunities, set things up, be a pioneer, build your legacy and more. It really simply means “Freedom to Succeed”. You’re empowered to make the process better. Not just giving ideas, but you get to work on it.
You’ll thrive in Reckitt if you are entrepreneurial and take things forward. It will be a testament of your agility, resiliency and grit.
This month marks my 3rd anniversary in Reckitt. I’m blessed I get to work with one of the best managers I have, Gemma and the HR team is always supportive of doing things right, but differently.
I look forward to exploring what role I can play for my next challenge. :)
