Are you taking the bar exam again? Does the written portion make you nervous?
Maybe your written scores are mostly 2’s and 3’s out of 6 possible points. Maybe you ran out of time. Or maybe you didn't know the rules that were tested.
I get it!
Most bar exam takers give 80 to 90% of their focus to the multiple-choice because it's easier for your bar prep course to teach. Even though the written portion has equal weight, you end up going into day 1 of the bar exam underprepared.
This means you miss out on the golden opportunity the written portion has to bump up your score.
Did you know the easiest, fastest, and most reliable way to increase your score is on the written portion?
Here’s why. The questions on the written portion are more PREDICTABLE than the multiple-choice questions. On the written portion, year after year they test the same important concepts an attorney must know before they are licensed to practice law.
Due to its predictability, the written portion provides a golden opportunity for you to rack up lots of points. (And it’s not graded by a computer so you have more control over your score.) It's how I passed the bar exam in 3 states after failing it once and I still haven't found a better way.
Below are 3 things you can do to leverage the written portion of the bar exam to your advantage and finally pass the bar exam this time.
1.????Supercharge the process you use to study for the bar exam so that you improve the CONTENT of your answers. I may be the best writer in the world but if I don’t know anything about engines, I can’t produce a high-scoring essay on engines in 30 minutes. Focus on understanding the highly tested rules better so that you can elevate the content of your answers.
2.????IRAC like a pro. When you IRAC like a pro, you know how to write a robust rule paragraph and you use the facts more. Using the facts more isn't about plopping facts into your answer. Learn HOW to apply the law to the facts presented.

3.????Follow a formula for how to draft concise answers in the allotted time. Imagine writing a romantic comedy without the formula screenwriters use. We would be doing it intuitively because we’ve watched enough romantic comedies to know we need a dance scene. With their formula, we would know exactly where to add the dance scene and why. And our movie is less likely to flop! Similarly, when you follow a formula for answering bar exam essays and performance tests, you follow it every time to draft concise high-scoring answers in the allotted time.
Doing these 3 things will show bar exam graders you are ready to go out into the world as a licensed attorney…and that translates into points!
The real value of knowing how to leverage the written portion is the CONFIDENCE you will feel when you sit down at your computer to take day 1 of the bar exam knowing you understand the rules well and have the skills to draft a high-scoring answer.
Remember to leverage the written portion of the bar exam to your advantage to make this the year you finally pass the bar exam!
