How To Leverage Social Media To Learn Faster And Increase Resilience
Do you think social media is a waste of time?
I used to. I thought platforms like LinkedIn simply served as a handy digital CV, Facebook was a way to see old friends and Twitter is just for flame wars and tech VC's. As I consumed large amounts of information I felt that it was merely for entertainment.
After publishing daily, I see it as a place to improve my skills, here's why:
The fast feedback from social media enables rapid learning
But learning about what?
Learning about modern communication. I've learnt how to structure my thoughts and write them simply. Its amazing that access to this feedback system is free. Social media has changed how humans communicate.
This communication skill will be relevant for decades.
It's not just communication skills that you can learn
What if you could rapidly learn Machine Learning?
At first glance Kaggle.com appears to be an online competition platform. Hidden below the surface is a public notebook sharing feature. Kaggle provides access to a community of developers who will provide feedback for free.
To learn a new skill find a community of experts and hit publish.
Posts with zero likes are good, they build resilience
It feels bad when no-one likes your stuff.
But if you can keep posting, you start to build the mental resilience that is necessary for fast learning. It's ok that a post got zero likes, its not a reflection of you, its just a bad piece of work.
Its an opportunity to improve on next time.?
