How to Level Up your Job Search ...as a Recruiter

How to Level Up your Job Search ...as a Recruiter

As recruiters, we often excel at advancing others' careers, but when it's time to pivot our own, it’s not so easy. Knowing the right strategies can make all the difference. Part of my WHY in supporting Recruiters, TA and HR professionals is because I believe when People leaders LAND opportunities, they begin the ripple effect of elevating the entire workforce!

When I coach TA professionals who are in active or passive job search we discuss what's getting in the way of the results they want? Here are some very common answers:

  • "I don't know."
  • "Uncertain how to market my skills & expertise"
  • "The competitive market."
  • "I feel like a dinosaur." ??
  • "Getting ghosted, and no bites."

Here are 5 tips to fast-track YOUR career and job search:

1. Prioritize Your Continued Learning: Stay proactive about your professional growth by utilizing resources like LinkedIn Learning. Keeping your skills sharp ensures you are always ready to seize new opportunities.

2. Understand Market Dynamics: Familiarize yourself with the most in-demand recruiter skills as identified by LinkedIn Talent Blog, including communication, human resources expertise, customer service, sales, leadership, and more. Reflect these skills in your resume and LinkedIn profile to improve your marketability.

3. Enhance Your Professional Visibility: Use your networking skills not just to place others but to advance your own career. Engage on social platforms, contribute to discussions, and connect with industry leaders to keep yourself visible and relevant.

5. Embrace Your Professional Identity: Recognize and promote your unique strengths and experiences. Remember you, your story, and your journey (aka things you’ve done AND CONTINUE TO DO) to get the experience, expertise, perspective, and skills you have now is what contributes to your brand! Position yourself confidently as a proactive, knowledgeable recruiter who is an expert in navigating the complexities of hiring top talent and this crazy job market.

By integrating these strategies, you'll fast track your job search results and begin to position yourself as a top-tier professional in the recruitment field.

Anna Morgan really like the note on continual learning. I see so many in the recruiting/staffing industry as well as other industries that stop learning and stop enhancing their skills. They become stagnant. Any potential employer is going to want to know you are curious, open minded, and stay current with the times in terms of technology and industry specific knowledge. Also, learning and challenging ourselves can be so fun and rewarding! Learning isn't a destination it is a lifelong journey! It provides value to you and an employer.

Yes! I hear it all too often. Recruiters don’t know how to step outside the frame. They are too “in the picture”. I just wrote about this ?? https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/tabtherecruiter_tabtherecruiter-transferableskills-jobsearch-activity-7189375165384773632-WV7c?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios

Professional development seems to be a HOT topic these days! One of my favorite ways to do this is by attending industry events, and reading industry specific books. However, lately I've been feeling the pull to consider additional learning. Strongly thinking about going to get my PHR, because I feel the lines get SO blurred between HR and Talent. For people just getting into recruiting there are so many more resources available to get "certified" as a Recruiter. That didn't exist when I started in this game! LOL #careerbff
