How to Level Up: Tips for Taking Your Life and Career to the Next Level

There is no way around it, if you want to grow the best way to make progress is to push yourself and constantly improve.

Here are some tips on how to level up and grow as a person:

Make progress become superior to your previous self. You are your only competition.

  • You are your only competition.
  • Focus on self improvement, not on other people's success.
  • Competition is healthy, but competition with your future self is better.
  • Improvement is a journey and not a destination.

As long as you are growing your hope in the future will remain bright. Keep a vision of your best self in front of you. Your goal is to live out the version of yourself everyday.

Seek to improve. When you cease to be better you cease to be good. - George Knox

When you stop improving, you stop being good. And when you stop being good, you are on a downward spiral to lose of hope and progress.

That's why it's important to always be seeking ways to improve yourself and your life: your health, relationships, finances and your mind. In fact, the best way to level up is often by improving one thing at a time and then moving on once you reach the level you desire. You should be constantly trying new things in order to find out what works best for you personally.

Aim to be a great leader to yourself, by constantly influencing yourself towards progress and improvement.

The path to self improvement is based around these principles.

  • Be teachable.
  • Ask questions.
  • Adopt a learning mindset and learn from others, including your peers and mentors, but also books, podcasts, videos and other forms of media that can help you on your journey.

We often overcomplicate things to talk ourselves out of doing them. Stop telling yourself what won't work when you have not applied enough time and actions to determine what actually will work. At some point we have to stop making excuses and just do the things we know we should do to make the progress we know we should.

Plan for progress.

  • Determine the ways you will learn. The first step in leveling up is to figure out how you're going to do it. What kinds of books do you want to read? Is there a specific class or workshop that would be helpful? What are some resources that have worked well for other people who are working on similar goals as yours and could provide insight into how they've achieved their success?
  • Pick an area of growth for yourself. If there's one thing I've learned from watching people over the years, it's that everybody has areas where they feel stuck. This might mean taking on something new at work, starting over in a new job or even just getting back into shape. Whatever it may be for YOU: commit yourself fully to change and getting on a new path way towards progress.
  • Plan what books/courses/podcasts/ youtube videos that will help support this goal each week towards making progress.

Truth is you won't make progress by implementing the same behaviors that got you to where you are. To progress you need new information and time to apply the new information to your situation. Don't be the person always complaining about wanting change but not looking in the mirror realizing you are the only person that can truly change your reality.

What are you doing to continually get better?

To make progress in life, you need to continually get better.

This means that you should value learning over money and career decisions based on impact to long term goals and the learning needed for those goals.

It also means focusing on how you enhance yourself personally and not just financially.

Conclusion

Everyone wants to be better. The question is, how will you make it happen? To take your game to the next level, you need strategies that are tailored to your unique situation and goals. This means looking at what works for other people and figuring out how it might apply to your life. You also need discipline: the ability to stick with an idea long enough until it comes true.
