The LEED Green Associate credential affirms a professional’s thorough comprehension of green building principles and practices.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental design aims at maximizing energy efficiency of a building by setting various benchmarks and guidelines to be followed. It’s a set of standards that encourages buildings to be environmentally friendly. All aspects of a building’s design, construction, operation and maintenance – including HVAC – are taken into account and are certified at different levels.
The biggest energy consumers in a building are lighting and HVAC. So, LEED gave special attention to these two aspects. HVAC is integral to LEED certification as it affects several of the scoring categories. These scoring categories basically decide how “green” a building is.
With a LEED Green Associate and your experience as a HVAC engineer will be highly sought after for projects in future, as your credential will speak that you are well versed in the making energy efficient systems and operating the same with better return on investment for the client and with considerably lower impact to the surrounding environment.
If you gain the qualification, it will mean that you will have an opportunity to work in companies that have a greater focus on environmentalism and sustainability. It could be a great asset if that’s what you want to pursue.
