How To Learn More Effectively

How To Learn More Effectively

Good Morning Team!

“We do not learn from experience... we learn from reflecting on experience.” ―?John Dewey

Over the past few years of building and growing our team. The more circumstances we put ourselves?through, the more deals, the more up and down markets there is no doubt we made a lot of mistakes. Sometimes, I'm afraid?to admit it, even when making the same mistake more than once.

I have 3 coaches for business and real estate, we have countless coaching programs and documents to refer to. We have a network of over 30,000 agents in the industry and thousands of the best realtors, team leaders and brokers in North America, who I consult with on a daily basis. What I found is that no matter how much information I gather from others, which puts me on the track, there is no better way than trying, failing and learning?from that experience.?

Learning from Mistakes Through Reflection

Experiential Learning:

  • Mistakes provide practical insights that theoretical knowledge cannot. Real-life experiences will reveal complexities and nuances that are usually not talked about in coaching calls or documents provided to you.

Reflection as a Learning Tool:

  • Reflecting on mistakes allows you to understand the root causes of your errors. so you can adjust or stay the course on what's working and what's not.

Analysis:

  • Analysis: Analyzing mistakes helps identify struggles or problems. Which provides the opportunity to figure out what went wrong so you can fix it.
  • Adjustment: Implementing changes based on this analysis leads to improved results, reducing the likelihood of repeating the same mistakes.

The Importance of Mistakes Over Theory and Mere Doing

Bridging the Gap:

  • Theory vs. Practice: While being told what to do provides a foundation, the real-world application in your own business often varies between one person's business to another. Mistakes help bridge this gap, providing a reality check.
  • Hands-on experience, especially when things go wrong, develops the skills that are needed to create positive results.

Motivation to Learn:

  • Mistakes often have immediate and sometimes significant impacts, which can be strong motivators for individuals to learn and improve. This I know all too well.
  • Personal Investment: When individuals make mistakes, they become personally invested in finding solutions, leading to a more engaged and proactive learning process.

Implementation Strategies

Structured Reflection:

Implement regular debrief sessions where you can rely on your team members to discuss what went wrong, what was learned, and how to avoid similar mistakes in the future. Always keeping detailed notes where individuals can record their reflections on mistakes and the steps taken to address them.

Feedback Loops:

  • Constructive Feedback: Create a system for providing constructive feedback that focuses on learning and growth rather than blame.
  • Mentorship: Establish mentorship programs where more experienced team members can share their insights and reflections on past mistakes.

Encouraging a Growth Mindset:

  • Embracing Mistakes: Cultivate a culture that views mistakes as opportunities for learning rather than failures. Recognize and celebrate the learning that comes from overcoming mistakes, reinforcing the value of reflection and continuous improvement.

What I realized is that you can be given the play book to any industry to excel in whatever it is that you are doing. You can implement as much as you want but you will never really understand why you do things and how to dial in those mistakes and provide a better client experience if you don't actually learn from the mistakes.

BE GREAT!
