How leaders can show up for their team!

How leaders can show up for their team!

Building a team is no small feat! From high-rise construction to hairdressing, every company will reach a point where it is time to expand their forces and onboard more employees. If you have reached the point where you’ve created a great team, it’s time to consider your own role. As a leader and potentially owner of the company, you must remember that although the team puts forth the best of their work, you should also be showing up to the table. Team leaders should always create a positive environment where all employees feel valued and important. This can be done through a variety of methods and shifts in attitude. Creating a positive work environment is the best, and most effective way to retain team members and assure that your company continues to grow and do well.

Empower Team Members

One of the biggest things that a leader can do for their team is empower and give them agency in the work tasks they are assigned. Part of being a leader is sharing responsibility with those on your team. Leaders should provide opportunities for members to stand out and show off their individual skills. This can be done with individual tasks and designating different parts of larger projects to individuals.

By providing these tasks and opportunities to those on your team you show your trust in your team which can play a large role in giving them a sense of value and purpose in the work they are doing. Another large part of empowering those on your team is listening; this goes a long way in empowering employees. When employees feel as though their leader is truly listening to them and taking their thoughts into consideration, they feel respected and important to the team.?

Celebrate Diversity?

Leaders should celebrate diversity in their team by creating an environment where such is the case.?Having a diverse team provides a certain level of inclusiveness that will set the tone for the team and the company. Having a diverse team does not just benefit your team but it can also benefit your company, the clients you will get and work in general. Diversity has also been found to be beneficial to a team both in terms of innovation and decision making. Overall, by celebrating diversity you can create an environment where everyone in your team feels valued, supported, and comfortable.

Motivate your Team

Motivating your team is a way to encourage a positive work environment for you and your team. Giving positive feedback when you see those in your team doing well is a great small step that can help to motivate team members. Assessing how you give criticism is also an important factor in motivating employees. Criticism should always be constructive and acknowledge what an employee is doing correctly also. Small fun ways to motivate employees can include bringing in food once in a while. In the end though the most important factor in motivating employees is how you treat them.
