How to Lead Millennials, Women and Minorities in the 21st Century

Leading from the front.

Stepping up without screwing up.

“Leadership is the ability to get extraordinary achievements from ordinary people.” ~Brian Tracy

The only constraint of the company growth is the CEO ambition.

As CEO or a High Achiever, the most you can manage is yourself.

Do that right and everything else fall into place.

Your leadership ability is the major limit to what you can achieve in business.

IT’S YOUR FAULT!

If your company is doing great and you are achieving great results. Congrats you can celebrate:)

If your company is going through some challenges, it is time to look at things a little deeper.

When a customer is not getting a great service through your customer service representative, it's your fault.

Top to bottom, front to back.

Everything is your fault.

After all when a company gets into trouble, what do they do?

They fire the CEO!

When a team starts losing, they replace the head coach, when the country is not doing well, they want to oust the president.

When your ship comes in, you are going to win big, when your ship goes down, you are going down captain.

As a CEO there is only one question you should be asking yourself right now…

How is my leadership?

WHO YOU NEED TO LEAD

MILLENNIALS

This is the first time in history where you will lead millennials.

Millennials are the biggest group of people to enter the workforce in human history

Nurture through a completely different era, they have a completely different value system.

Millenials value self expression, not compliance.

They care about independence, not routine.

If you are having a hard time managing millennial, you need to figure it out and quickly.

Millennials will soon represent half the workforce.

By 2020, they will hold half of the majority position.

Like it or not, they are going to play a star role on how the market plays in the future.

They will make both your workforce and your competition.

Not only is the workforce younger, its gender make up as shifted.

WOMEN

As employment fluctuates, there are more women working than men.

Stay at home dads as double to over 20%

This is a massive shift compared to the male dominated industrial age.

But wait, there is more.

MINORITIES

Adding to these statistics, by 2050

Minorities will make up 55% of the working age population, making them the majority.

Add it all up and you will realize that the people are extremely diverse.

Did you know that the first time in history, we will have 5 GENERATION IN THE WORKPLACE WORKING AT ONCE.

When the millennials occupies the majority of leadership positions, not only will there be two generations following them but their parents and grandparents will still be working too.

How is that for a mind blowing, nerve racking leadership challenge?

You can’t be an old school leader in a new school workplace and expect to thrive.

ENTER THE 21st CENTURY LEADERSHIP!

Leadership in the 21st century are not bosses, and not managers.

They are leaders in the true sense of the word, they embodied the four great things that keep great leaders apart.

  • Leader set the pace

People don’t go as fast as they can. They don’t work as fast as they can. They are not as discipline as possible. They aren’t as positive and enthusiasm as they can be. They are only as fast, positive as YOU ARE.

As the leader you set the pace. You create the standard. It doesn’t matter if you leading sales people, engineers or creatives. They will only be as discipline, driven, positive, consistent as the person leading them.

LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND DO IT FIRST

Be the change you want to see in others. ~Ghandi

  • Leaders do what is unpopular.

You will have to make tough calls. You may need to eliminate a product like Steve Jobs did when he returned to a nearby bankrupt Apple in 1997. Rest assured, if your name badge is going to say leader, you will be called to fire nice people , terminate pet projects. All of which will make you unpopular. The aim of the leader is not to be liked, its to lead and do the right thing. More than we like the right thing is not the most popular thing.

  • Leaders grow others

Leaders don’t tell you what to think. They don’t dictate, they facilitate. People and ideas thrive in environments of engagements, co-creation. Every voice is important. It is the responsibility of the leader to draw out the talent, drive and capability of the people on their team.

  • Leaders let other lead.

“Be a quitter”

Whatever you are doing in your business right now. Your goal is to quit. You need to stop doing everything you do at the office. Once the CEO as the vision, the key to executive this vision is to DELEGATE, much and as fast as possible.

Delegation is a form of quitting. Even if you are the most well rounded and capable CEO of all times. You are still better off giving these functions to specialists. This allows you to multiple the size of your endeavors to a large audience rather than trying to do everything yourself. Delegate everything, except the part of being the visionary leader.

You can’t lead if you are designing brochures.

You can’t lead if you are doing accounting.

You can’t lead if you are managing production.

You can’t lead if you aren't doing things that are actually leadership

GET OUT OF THE WAY, let specialist take the lead on those roles.

You are the head coach not the player.

Imagine if the head coach of a basketball team would jump in to a game and start throwing the ball and try to dunk?

They will throw him out of the building immediately.

Yet many CEO do the same thing every single day in their company

Be a quitter, do your real job and let your team do theirs.
