Onboarding during summer vacation: How to give hires a warm welcome?

Onboarding new hires during the summer season may pose some challenges. The office is emptier than usual, key personnel are absent, and there are fewer tasks than normal to get your new hire up and running. Therefore, it might be harder for the new employee to ease into their new role and feel connected to the team.

Luckily, a bit of planning and creativity can help you overcome these challenges and successfully integrate your new hires in no time. For example, an onboarding buddy can be a helpful guide through the initial period, and pre-written welcome messages from colleagues on holiday can also spark excitement and a warm welcome.

From 4 C's to 7 C's: The building blocks of good onboarding

Ever wondered about the foundation of good onboarding? According to the well-known and established framework “the 4 C’s of onboarding”, the building blocks of a successful onboarding process are Compliance, Connection, Clarification, and Culture.

The 4 C framework was developed by onboarding expert Talya Bauer. Over time, two more C’s have been added by Bauer herself (Confidence and Checkback), and another one by Appical (Creativity).

But what does compliance have to do with onboarding? How can you implement creativity into their onboarding process? And what role does company culture play in integrating new hires into their new role?
