How To Know Your Worth For Career Success!

Welcome to Package Your Career Potential - In this issue, I'll be talking about the concept of Knowing Your Worth and how by taking this approach, you'll be able to stand out from the competition when applying, shine the brightest when interviewing and thrive in your career!

Without further ado, let me introduce you to what I mean when I talk about Knowing Your Worth.

But first;

  • Have you ever walked out of an interview feeling you undersold yourself?
  • Or lost a job offer because you didn't know how to state your price confidently?
  • Or your "Pitch" was a shabby attempt at introducing yourself, your skills, and how you can help them?
  • Has low self-confidence cost you a job?

If you answered "YES" to any of these questions (or all four), this letter is tailored specially towards your freedom.?

Keep reading.

So, what is Knowing Your Worth?

Knowing Your Worth is a loaded concept I use to summarise what needs to be at play to help you shine the brightest, dig the deepest and step out as your most potent and powerful self to get the job you deserve.

I treat it as the core foundation to landing your dream job because all the job search strategies, interview techniques, dazzling CVs, and LinkedIn profiles simply don't have the desired effect without this concept of Knowing your worth.

Knowing your worth broken down represents;

  • You're at your most POWERFUL - This is the version of you without any barriers/difficult circumstances or limiting beliefs, where you're free to be ambitious and stay true to what your inner voice of desire tells you to be.
  • You're at the TOP of your POTENTIAL - This is your version of your most POWERFUL, where you have complete and utter faith in your skills, experience, and achievements.
  • You're at the most CONFIDENT, DETERMINED & RESILIENT - Thinking through the times when you've been at the top of your game, you've got through the worst of situations and stepped out as the BEST version of yourself, this is where you're tapped into this frame of mind.

When you get this right, it is emitted through your application documents and interview, but when you get this wrong, it can affect your PITCH.

Because you won't be PITCHING YOUR WORTH.

If you get this wrong, you can appear INEXPERIENCED or OVERQUALIFIED for the job you deserve.

But get this RIGHT, you will PITCH PERFECTLY for the job.

As a career coach, I've noticed that most job seekers don't know how to present themselves, which trims their chances of getting hired by over 90%.

Why are these numbers so high?

It's simple..?

You're gambling instead of targeting because you don't know your worth, how to communicate it, or both.?

For instance, pitching too HIGH means that you're applying for a certain level role, but your CV and application documents UNDERPLAY your seniority, expertise, and responsibilities.

Pitching too LOW equates to seeming OVERQUALIFIED for the role.

Every recruiter or employer wants to view a CV, application, and interview performance that appears like you were MADE just for their role, pitched PERFECTLY.

The tone and pitch can differ between getting shortlisted or filtered out.

Bonus Tip: This approach applies exactly to interviewing too!

So, how can you carve out your unique pitch?

This brings us back to knowing your worth.

The Power Of Knowing your Worth

Another way to think about the concept of knowing your worth session is to understand what makes you special and unique. This represents your competitive edge and the added value that only YOU will bring to the job as opposed to your competition.?

The qualities and attributes that make you special and unique can be considered like your 'DIAMONDS' because showcasing them helps you shine the BRIGHTEST.

You'll hear me talk a lot about knowing your PERSONAL BRAND and CORE OFFER in future editions, but this is coding for the wonderful amalgamation of values, personality, skills, experience, passion, and qualities that make you GREAT.?

So the art of knowing your worth is to UNCOVER your diamonds, POLISH them, and flaunt them with PRIDE.?

This brings us to how to Communicate your diamond's worth.

The reason I use the saying "It takes as much time and effort to apply for a job that you DO want as it does for a job that you DON'T" is because with EVERY application, the employer wants to feel as though you applied explicitly for their role and that you're the right fit.

If it's glaring that you appear underqualified or overqualified, they may be inclined to shortlist someone who seems more aligned.

With that in mind, if you are seeking a senior role, a role that carries responsibility or is a next-level role, it's important to pitch your expertise at the top of your potential and avoid these common mistakes;

Standing out at an interview is an art. It's not just about answering the question but an ability to maximise the unique traits that set you apart while making it easy for the interviewers to see why they should choose you for the role.??

It takes huge amounts of confidence, determination, and resilience to bring ALL of you to interview this way, and it all starts with Knowing Your Worth. This is precisely why I created The Interview Story Impression Technique! (Read more here).

4 Steps To Building Your Worth?

The short answer is; Look inwards, tap into your strengths, determine your weaknesses, ask yourself hard questions and answer them honestly. You have to find the diamond within you before you can offer it.?

You can also talk to me if you need help with this exercise. But for now, check out these four tips:?

1. Check your AMBITION

Your ambition represents your INNER VOICE. Your genuine desire to ACHIEVE and do what you're meant to do. Listening to your ambition firstly requires you to give yourself PERMISSION to BELIEVE, DREAM, and ASPIRE to your personal career goals.

2. Notice the DUAL between your HEAD & HEART

It's natural to consider all the PRACTICAL aspects of why you should or shouldn't apply for a job. However, if your INNER VOICE is loud enough, it will usually be trying to signal that concentrating on all the 'safe, secure options could take you further away from your TRUE path (which often represents your true potential - or what could be if you weren't afraid).?

This dual between the head and heart is natural and necessary. The way to stop it from sabotaging is to NOTICE when it's happening.

3. Give your CONFIDENCE a workout!

Confidence is like a muscle. It has to be worked to build it. It grows inside out, so a way to know your worth is to TAP INTO the most POWERFUL, RESILIENT, FEARLESS and BADASS version of yourself!?

4. Have the application documents and interview techniques to reinforce your pitch and unique brand.
