After coming back from my Sammed Shikharji pilgrimage, I realized that I have to improve on my fitness, stamina and lose some kg. At the entrance of the 40, I should start taking command of my health. In a way the trip was an eye opener for me and I decided to start jogging, daily exercise and Arham dyan yoga! This time I just did not decide but started it.?
I started waking up early in the morning at 5:30/5:45 AM, and went for a jog in our society. Couple of days later, I observed a couple of cute new born kittens playing around the parking lot. One of the kittens was trying to climb the fencing wall of the society. Our society has fencing walls which are at different heights at different places.?
I observed for the first couple of days, the kitten was just observing the various walls.. Running from wall to wall looking at the wall, waiting and looking, it seemed like it was thinking and doing some calculations in the mind. Then running to another wall and doing the same. It did not attempt to climb but just did these calculations for a few days. One fine day, it tried climbing a wall which was higher than the other one.. it did attempt twice. Then it turned to the other wall. It knew that there was a support also available with the other wall which was at a lesser height. She tried a couple of times and then it could climb on the wall.?
Next few mornings, I saw, it was flawlessly climbing that small wall. The third morning what I saw surprised me. Now the kitten started gauging next walls which were at more height that what it was able to climb by now. It repeated the same steps as it did for the previous wall which it could climb. Now that it has achieved a smaller wall, it was looking confident and comfortable for higher walls. It struggled a couple of times but then climbed the higher wall this time.?

I was able to relate this behavior to the Agile way of achieving the value in increments and continuously improving and bettering the delivery. This is what exactly the kitten did. It first tried smaller walls and once it was comfortable in climbing the smaller wall, it started attempting for higher walls.
It did break down the tasks in the smaller chunks that it could deliver. Appropriately estimated and planned the jumps accordingly. In Execution, it did struggle, learn from it and then it re-planned & executed to achieve the first target. Here it followed retrospection, inspection and adaptation.??
I told myself, let’s learn from the kitten. If it can follow agile and add value to life in an incremental fashion, I can too.?
What else do you find in this story, that kitten followed from Agile values?
