How to keep your new year's resolution with AI
AI is all the rage these days, it's popping up in everything, whether that's self driving cars or robot cooks.
But most things still need a human touch, it needs us to do something and all too often it's our own weaknesses that stop us getting in the way of success.
Take new year's resolutions....
To make them work we will need good habits, will power and persistence! Qualities few of us possess in abundance!
Yet most of us still want to try!
We often make new year's resolutions at work - maybe we'll dress it up as "2018 plan" or if you're in the corporate world "Q1 strategy", but it's still a new year's resolution.
These resolutions may be very sensible in theory but when it comes to practice are all too often discarded at the first hurdle.
The effort we put into them is often limited to writing the plan out. It is all too similar to the "list on the fridge" related to food, drink and exercise (reduce, reduce, increase :) ).... these lists represent good intentions yet we fail to put in place any processes to ensure we follow through.
A prime candidate for this are our social media channels - how many of us vaguely resolve to "do more" on social media each year? Yet we never execute.
The thing is, there's no point having a plan unless you know:
- How you will track progress?
- How you will be reminded of your progress when life gets busy? (ie. on January 2)
But tracking progress is drudgery, it is pure hard work. There's really no fun in it - so apart from the odd "quantified self" geek, most of us just don't do it. We simply can't be bothered.
Perhaps here then, is something we can get our robot underlings to help us with?
Maybe the robots can help us keep our new year's resolutions?
What if the robot could track whether we're keeping our resolutions? What if it knew whether we were doing what we planned to do and kept us honest?
What we need is for it to track the score for us, and weekly remind us how we are doing. Definitely the way forward! While it's still up to us to do the activity we planned, at least this way we've got 52 more chances to create better habits over the course of the whole year.
With the rise of AI, this is now possible, thanks to automated AI scorecard tools like rise.global. We'd decide our resolution and show the robot how to track our activities (Aka "Score Collector" robot), then we'd get the robot to remind us each week how we were doing in progressing towards the goal (aka the "Score Bulletin" robot!).
While this approach could apply anywhere, why don't we start with social media? I might make a resolution to post 5 times a day on Twitter - well why not get the robot to login to Twitter for me at the end of each week and see if I've kept to my resolution? It could then email me to say how I'm going.
Wouldn't it be great if your new year resolution lasted all the way through to 2019 - this year it just could, with a bit of a robotic helping hand!
I've set up a robot template for tracking Twitter for you to try. You can have a go at making your own Twitter Profile Scorecard on rise.global. Any questions or if you get stuck - just message me here on LinkedIn.
