Motivation is at the very heart of performance management , something that managers must attend to all the time. A person can understand the importance of ambitious goals but is unlikely to achieve them without being motivated to do so.

You can inspire engagement and boost motivation among your team by:
*Cultivate a culture of respect: Motivating your people start with being a good manager. A company can offer great pay and benefits, employee friendly policies, and other perks, but a bad boss can neutralize theses features and demotivate people. Employees value being treated with respect and feel its important that their colleagues are treated well too. Unfortunately respect isn't the norm everywhere, to the contrary incivility and bad behavior are far too common in the workplace. When such behavior comes from bosses, it can easily spread. Engagement rises as respectful treatment increases. And there are a few steps you can take as a manager to minimize bad behavior and foster a culture of respect, thereby boosting motivation and engagement .

- Respect your employee's dignity
- Hire respectful candidates and stop bad behavior .
Once you've established a workplace where your employees are comfortable, you can increase their engagement through rewards, recognition and challenge.
