As we enter the new year and school semester, children safety is a top concern at schools across the nation, after the tragic incidents last year that resulted in innocent children losing their lives. To help support teachers, parents & students; Here are a few ways as leaders we can work to provide safety for our children at school.
- Establish clear rules and procedures: Children should be aware of the expectations for behavior and what to do in case of an emergency.
- Supervision: Children should be supervised at all times, especially during recess and other times when they may be unstructured.
- Safety drills: Schools should practice safety drills, such as fire drills and lockdown drills, to ensure that children know what to do in case of an emergency.
- Bullying prevention: Schools should have policies in place to address and prevent bullying, which can have serious physical and emotional consequences for children.
- Secure entrances: Schools should have secure entrances to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the building.
- Internet safety: Children should be taught about internet safety and the importance of keeping personal information private online.
- Mental health support: Schools should have resources in place to support the mental health and well-being of students. This can include counseling services and support groups.
By following these guidelines, schools can create a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and grow.
