When your audience tunes in to your webinar or presentation
My firm surveyed almost 400 people; most respondents claimed they checked e-mail more than any other activity. Let’s be honest; it’s easy to do, and you are constantly being pinged on your phone, computer, and even watch to check it these days.
Here are some tips to keep your audience tuned in and focused on your presentation:??
Start on time??
Your audience has dedicated a portion of their day to listening to your message. This deserves appreciation and respect. Allocate 30 minutes before your presentation to thoroughly test your audio and visual equipment. In my experience, technical glitches
Break down your content into bite size segments to maintain your audiences engagement
Immerse yourself and enjoy your material?

Your voice needs to radiate enthusiasm
Use a facilitator??
Find a facilitator to handle various tasks, such as room setup, addressing technology issues, distributing agendas or slides in advance, monitoring the chat room, and conducting polls. You can even ask a colleague to help with this. Delegating these responsibilities will eliminate distractions, allowing you to concentrate on delivering an engaging presentation with confidence and enthusiasm.??

1 年Nancy Duarte these are great points. I would add the following points to the list. 1. Include poll/quiz or icebreaker at the start and/or middle of the presentation to get everyone involved 2. Have someone moderate the chats in parallel to sync with flow of the discussion 3. Less words more visuals on the slides (in both in-person or remote setting but especially important for remote)

1 年You are so right Nancy! Speaking to "real" people, in person is soooo different than doing it remotely. I find it hard to feel fully relaxed and comfortable speaking to a camera even though I know there are people on the other side. lol

1 年Thanks for sharing Nancy. I would like to add two suggestions. Start with a provocative question or statement that you are genuinely curious about and allow people to answer out loud or in chat. This trains the audience from the jump that they will not be passively consuming the material but asked to think critically about it. Second, in your preparation, decide what it is you are truly trying to accomplish with this presentation and why that personally matters to you. This will activate you emotionally and keep you focused on doing the thing you set out to do. This is how actors work on a part. Acting is Doing. Knowing what you are doing and doing it with purpose is incredibly attractive.

1 年"Immerse yourself and enjoy your material" caught me the most Nancy Duarte. If you want to motivate your audience, it's good to be Motivated and motivating at the same time. "Share the party". ??

1 年Awesome tips Nancy Duarte! I always train my audience very early on in the presentation to take some form of action. It can be as simple as "Pop in the chat where you're joining from". Calling out the different locations also shows that you're listening to them and validating their participation. Sometimes I even cheekily ask "Who's still in their pajamas?" I'm always surprised how candid people are with that one! ?? I have found that making it fun and easy for them to participate from the get-go helps to increase engagement and more importantly, retention!
