Social Media
- Allow them to use social media at the workplace, you might be surprised with how they can leverage it to the advantage of your business. They grew up with social media, so this only makes sense.
Remote
- Give them the flexibility to work from home to mix up their schedule. Don't insist that they work unreasonable hours, as this will more drastically lower their job-satisfaction. The reason being is Millennials strive for work-life balance and have less tolerance just living to work.
Socialize
- Give them opportunity to socialize in a casual work environment. Allow them to wear Jeans if they are not customer facing or meet with any clients in their job. Let them be themselves and socialize at work, this will also improve teamwork.
Integrate
- Ask for their feedback, include them in meetings and surveys. Use them to help your company innovate, as their ideas may be more in touch with the current trends. Treat them like your equal and give their job more meaning and decision making power. Do not isolate them from feeling like they have real responsibility, and give them opportunities to mentor your less tech-savvy employees.
Values
- Millennials will leave your firm if your organization's values don't match with theirs, it's just a matter of time. So think about how to attract young talent and how to adapt your company's vision to a youthful and mission statement more in line with this emerging generation in the marketplace.
Appreciation
- Millennials aren't just about the $ like some of the baby boomers. They are the most education generation in history and seek meaning, to be appreciated and to be part of companies that make a difference. They want leadership mentoring above all, coaching the opportunity to be taken seriously. They will have a greater variety of skills and a greater desire to learn than many of their supervisors.
Authenticity
- If your company says one thing and does another, these folk will notice. They are hyper sensitive to reacting negatively to any perceived disconnect between the firm's words and actions. If they don't believe you are authentic, they will leave at a moment's notice. If you say one thing to their face and another behind their back, they will bolt like there is no tomorrow. Having an inauthentic or insincere management style is the greatest problem for your company to retain Millennials. Coach them to do not 'supervise' them in the traditional sense.

9 年Give them a purpose! Unlike baby boomers or generation X, Millennials are not looking for stability or job security. They want to work for visionary companies (bosses) and feel like they're contributing to building something great.

9 年I think that, apart from many companies, my peers that I've known coming out of a university have little brand loyalty. They'll take whatever place can hire them or pay them a reasonable amount, but most are looking to leave and do something new a few years down the road. The cohort itself is aware of much more information on how businesses should be run than previous generations due to the widespread influence of the internet. And simply put, they want to be treated like normal people. The faux friendliness of some workplaces for the sake of professionalism can be stifling to some. Being authentic really does matter.
