How to Keep Going in Government Contracting

Maybe you’ve been in the government contracting space for a while now. You’ve probably submitted a few bids, but haven’t won anything yet, and it’s starting to feel discouraging. Maybe you're thinking of throwing in the towel. But before you give up, here’s some motivation from my 17 years of experience in this field.
Remember Your “Why”
The first thing you need to do is get clear on why you’re in government contracting. For me, it all boiled down to freedom. Growing up, I watched my dad work for different manufacturing companies, and every two to four years, they downsized.?
I made a promise to myself that I was never going to work for anyone who controlled my income. I always knew I would be an entrepreneur. I didn’t expect to do it so young, but I knew it was coming.
So, what’s your why? Is it to make more money? To pay for a vacation? To replace your full-time job? To spend more time with family? Whatever it is, hold onto that.?
Let the Doubters Fuel You
I think about the people who doubted me all the time - teachers, friends, family. I was also given up for adoption. But guess what? I don’t let that stop me. If anything, I want people to doubt me because their doubts only fuel me.?
I know God is with me, and I know this journey is part of His plan. Nobody can take away what God has planned for you. Let those doubters keep talking, and use it as motivation to push forward.
Reflect on Your Successes
In my darkest moments, I think back on all my successes and what I’ve already overcome. Getting my PhD, recovering from surgery, and other personal challenges I’ve faced - I reflect on these to remind myself that I can do hard things. Every obstacle I’ve faced has made me stronger, and if I could overcome those, I can get through this too.

Trust the Process
I also have to give a shoutout to my business partner for reminding me to trust the process. They asked me if I remembered what was happening in my life three months ago, and honestly, I didn’t.?
They said, “Well, three months from now, whatever you’re going through right now won’t matter either. This is part of the journey and the growth.” And they were right. You may not be winning right now, but three months from now, you could be. Stay focused and keep pushing.
The Opportunities Are There?
Finally, I want you to realize how much opportunity there is out there. On SAM.gov alone, there are over 2,000 opportunities available within the next 30 to 60 days. This market is full of potential.?
There’s no reason why you can’t win a contract. The only way you lose is if you quit. So, stick with it. It’s not always going to be easy, but most people give up when things get tough. Don’t be like most people. Keep going. You’ve got this! And of course, I’m always here for you.
