"Happiness" is in doing what you love and loving what you do.

As everyday isn't the same, work wouldn't always be of your choice, nor would be the people around. You might find someone knowing nothing at your head and someone better than you at a lower grade than yours. You might find people always speaking negative about the organisation and you will find hard-workers who wouldn't talk much. There' ll be a few whom you'd always find sitting in the cafe and then there'll be chatter boxes. There will be a few who will always stare at you and would give you THAT LOOK and there will be a few who'll always greet you "Good day". There can be a few making you uncomfortable and a few who will make you feel valuable. But..!!! But what will keep you "going on.."? What will keep you engaged? What would always be motivating? work?? people?? fun-fridays?? no !! not always!!..
It has to be a blend of a lot of things.
- An employer's aim should be to build such an atmosphere in the organisation that an employee looks forward to come to the office everyday by choice when he wakes up in the morning.
- Work should be such that helps in building Careers. Exposure. Experience.
- While assigning work, an employee's educational background must be kept in mind. If he/she specializes in something, company should develop his skills/knowledge/ in the same. 5 years down the line, he/she would never regret working for you.
- The top most people in the organisation must be approachable & should meet middle/lower management more often, not just to take a feedback but also to build a lasting relation. The missing "connect" is very common these days.
- Rewards & Recognition activities should be done with full heart & not merely as an activity. Trust me, a simple heart-felt congratulation would be more impacting than handing over a sugar-coated trophy with fake applause.
- Get involved with your employees. Don't assume. Take regular feedback & provide tools, training, support etc. Who knows your employee must have been missing it from his/her boss!
- There is a difference between a Satisfied Employee and an Engaged Employee. Aim for Engagement. The satisfied one would only stay for temporary period, engaged would last forever.
- Never harass your employee in public, and never use a junior as a stencil to insult or to indirectly convey your message to a senior. This can be the most demotivating thing for the junior.
- Be genuine & always make the newbies believe in the act of kindness. Business isn't suppose to be done with cruelty. Business shouldn't be a dirty but a competitive game.
- The word "Learning" is often misused. There is a definite learning in everything that we do, but this doesn't mean that in the name of learning, employees are asked to do what they are not supposed to do.
- Encourage Mentor-ship. It builds people on a personal & a professional level.
- Don't forget to deliver all the promises that were made while inducting the employees.
Be happy, work hard, make your life count!!
