How to Keep Business Thriving Through Coronavirus

Whether it is the stockpiling of food or household essentials, it is clear that with each day that passes, there is another daunting issue to contend with.

Many businesses around the world are frantically racing to get some stability during a time where the economic ramifications are unknown. With more and more stories of businesses rolling out temporary lay-offs or closing their doors, there doesn’t seem to be news of support or advise for those looking for answers.

Aspire Cambridge have put together some points to help keep business thriving through this uncertain time.

Flexibility

Although we cannot deduce which businesses will survive and continue to operate during and after the current crisis, we imagine it will be those offering flexibility to staff. Those who are staunchly office-based will need to offer remote working to staff to ensure that, in the event of a lockdown, the business can continue to run away from the office. This could not only help your business, but the employees as well, as people will not be so worried about being laid-off and potentially losing vital income.

Be Open and Honest

We are not telling you to give staff the ins and outs of your business, but there is no good in shielding staff from issues. You never know, by working together with your staff, they may help come up with some solutions. You also need to be transparent about any potential closures or lay-offs, to give people the opportunity to prepare themselves and their households.

Have Trust

If your staff are remote working, it will be very easy to fall into the micro-management hole and want updates from your employees on the hour every hour. Despite what you may think, however, this will massively demotivate your staff and act as a productivity killer. Your staff will want to work hard and pull through this crisis as a team, you need to trust them to do this, however, get involved if productivity and output drops.

Effectively Manage Expenses

As we all navigate our way through this pandemic, the chances of your financial health being negatively impacted are relatively high. From staff illness to absence due to school closures, clients may not have the budget to come to your business. However, as with anything this will pass, and what is needed now is for companies to sit tight, and weather the storm together. Make sure you look at your spending and simplify it. Maybe temporarily cut some expenses that are not of the utmost importance to the survival of your business, such as unnecessary travel or office-based expenses such as food budgets. Keep an eye on the news and any government legislation that may include benefits for businesses.

The weeks and months ahead will be tough for business, but it will pass. If you have the right staff and have a proper plan in place, there is no reason for your business not to come out of the other side of this pandemic thriving.
