How are JSP filters and cartridges tested?
JSP filters and cartridges for half and full face masks are tested rigorously to ensure quality and performance. Filters and cartridges are subject to independent assessment for certification and ongoing audits, plus in-process inspection during production.
Before being released to stock, filters and cartridges are tested in one of JSP’s in-house QA laboratories. Several stages of testing are performed to assess performance and quality of manufacture.
?
Visual inspection
Filters and cartridges are first inspected to check markings and visually assess quality before moving on to testing.
?
Mechanical strength
Mechanical strength testing ensures filters and cartridges are manufactured correctly. The product is placed in a vibration chamber for 20 minutes, then removed and checked for damage.
?
Inhalation resistance
Filters and cartridges are tested for inhalation resistance. Requirements differ depending on type and classification.
Particulate (dust) – EN 143:
Gas and combined – EN 14387:
Penetration
Particulate (dust) filters are tested for penetration. Filters are challenged with a test aerosol and penetration must not exceed a certain percentage, dependent on class.
Cyclohexane absorption
Gas/vapour cartridges are tested for cyclohexane breakthrough. The test gas is passed through a pair of cartridges at a flow rate of 30l/min. Each pair has a minimum breakthrough time, depending on cartridge classification, which must be achieved.
