I'm not reinventing the wheel with this post.
ChatGPT isn't new and exciting anymore...
but it's still useful, and I am banking on others being slow adopters like me.
I think this "guide" (if you can even call it that) will help you skim the surface of what the power of artificial intelligence can do for your business website and your organic reach.
building personas
there's a whole world of prompting now.
basically, a prompt is what you use to give AI the "answers" that you want.
much like other conventional tools, you have to know how to use them in order to make them useful.
(I am no handyman, but I know when to bring the driver and when to bring the drill.)
the best advice I've learned from reading about other people's prompts is to do a little roleplay... ??
start your prompts with the simple phrase, "imagine you're a _____."
if you are building a content brief, say, "imagine you're an SEO."
if you're building a product page, say, "imagine you're a copywriter."
doing this will prevent AI from giving an overly generic answer.
don't get confused—you'll still get a surface-level response from ChatGPT or whatever tool you use.
but by giving it a job description, the response will be more aligned with what you're looking to do, making it a great jumping-off point.

company profile
now that you've dipped your toes in, you can start building avatars. this is another essential part of prompting.
instead of telling ChatGPT to roleplay as someone or something, you can start storing information in an avatar or fake persona.
I tend to use CAPS to indicate to myself and the tool that we're folding this information into this new persona.
if you own a law firm, for example. your named BIV LAW.
you would start by telling ChatGPT about BIV LAW: where you serve, what type of clients you're looking to have, what specialties you have, etc.
then ask it to note all of this and store it as BIV LAW...so you can pull it up in the future by just typing the CAPS word again.
this will help with the next stage of prompting...
keyword research
the most obvious reason to use tools like ChatGPT is for keyword research.
whereas before, keyword research had largely been kept behind paywalls, ChatGPT doesn't have the same problem getting the information you need (cough cough) to build a content strategy.
now that your company profile is in place, you can choose a specific subject relevant to your business and ask ChatGPT what keywords you should target for it.
for me and other small businesses I've worked with, it helps to ask:
"based on my yearly goal for CAPS to increase organic traffic, what long-tail keywords should I target for a blog post about ____?"
you'll get some great ideas, and you can follow the keywords that pop out at you. if you want, you can even ask ChatGPT to make a brief for you based on a certain keyword!
but that'll be a post for another day...
I'll be writing again next week! see you then ??
