How to invest in the right wardrobe to look like a successful leader
Basia Richard
Elevate your wardrobe to command respect, feel confident, and project the authority you've earned in your career!
Whether you like to admit it or not,?our?style reflects the way people look at us.?Knowing that image plays a critical element in how people portray you, you should put more thought into how to invest in the right wardrobe.
Usually, when people shop, their main objective in whether they should buy a piece of clothing or not is the price. And yes, price plays an essential role in whether you buy something or not, but rather, looking at a wardrobe from a monetary perspective, you should switch to thinking in terms of an investment.
I will admit that for years, I used to buy a trendy wardrobe. My closet was full of clothes, but I had nowhere to wear them. I had close to 20k worth of clothes sitting in my closet. It was painful.?That's when I started to think about investing in my wardrobe?rather than just clothes in order for my wardrobe?to?be functional and make me feel presentable and professional in all aspects of my life.
So let's talk about how to invest in the right pieces.
1) First of all, before you start buying clothes you have to start with your lifestyle! Here is the problem. Investing in the right wardrobe will be challenging if you don't organize your lifestyle activities and know what you will do within a week and a month.
Simply take a pen and paper and write down what you do within your week/month.
I would first separate your personal life from your work to make it easier. You want to know what your activities are!
2) Understand what your aesthetics are? This is important to identify your style preferences to know what pieces you should invest in. This is the key to differentiating yourself from others and truly creating a signature style.
For example, if you have a romantic style and love floral prints, I suggest investing in a classic silhouette like a silk floral button-up shirt or a floral pencil skirt.?
On the other hand, if you love rocker-chic aesthetics but need to figure out how to incorporate some of the elements that belong in this style, I suggest investing in a leather a-line skirt. This silhouette is classic and more than appropriate to wear to the office, conferences, and meetings. At the same time, you are incorporating some elements that belong to the style you identified with!
