How International Environment Can Help You Master Essential Soft Skills

Working in an international environment offers invaluable opportunities for personal growth and development of soft skills. Why is this important? Well, Deloitte predicts that soft skill-intensive occupations will account for two-thirds of all jobs by 2030. This surge demonstrates why we should be sharpening key abilities such as adaptability, curiosity, and creative problem-solving.

At Gi Group Holding , we’ve seen how our international networking is an unique incubator for developing these abilities. Collaborating with colleagues, candidates and clients from different cultural backgrounds requires us to be more attuned to nuance, communication styles, and problem-solving approaches. It’s this exposure that not only makes us better professionals but also enhances personal growth.

It’s no longer just about technical knowledge or ticking off skills on a CV—it's about how you connect and build relationship. Personally, I’ve found that working with global teams teaches you how to truly listen, navigate new perspectives, and manage projects in ways that align with different cultural expectations.

The Growing Challenge in Finding Soft Skills

Despite the increasing demand for soft skills like critical thinking, leadership, team work or change adaptability, many companies are struggling to find these attributes in new hires.

Forbes noted that young professionals often lack these essential abilities, even as the need for them continues to grow. This gap in soft skills is creating a significant hiring challenge, and its why candidates should consider roles and companies that help them develop skills such as the ability to navigate cultural nuances and build strong relationships.

At Gi Group Holding , we’ve seen firsthand that technical skills can only take you so far. It’s the soft skills that determine long-term success. While collaborating internationally, these abilities are developed at a faster pace, because every interaction requires a higher level of understanding, openness and empathy.

AI and the Value of Human Connection

As AI continues to transform the workplace, soft skills are becoming even more essential. While AI can handle routine and technical tasks, it’s the uniquely human abilities, such as relationship building, communication, or emotional intelligence, that machines can’t replicate. These are the qualities that drive successful collaboration and foster innovation in ways AI simply can’t.

The rise of automation highlights the value of these human connections. In a world where AI can take on more technical responsibilities, soft skills are what differentiate people. They help us build trust, navigate complex situations, and manage teams effectively.

Enhancing Soft Skills for International Companies

My experience at Gi Group Holding has taught me that developing soft skills is an ongoing process, one that requires continuous learning and feedback. It’s not just about adapting to new challenges but also about learning from others, this is especially effective when done in cross-cultural environments we have.

By embracing feedback and seeking out opportunities for growth, we can strengthen our ability to lead, collaborate, and connect with others. Skills that are essential in today’s global job market.

Soft skills aren’t something you can learn overnight, but they are something you can actively work on. By interacting with people from diverse cultures and continuously refining our approach, we become more adaptable and resilient, which helps us stand out in the competitive and complex landscape.

Creating an Inclusive and Connected Workplace

Mastering soft skills isn't just about you; it's about lifting everyone up. When we connect better with each other, our teams work smoother, everyone feels included, and we enjoy our jobs more.

Experiencing the international environment at Gi Group Holding accelerated my personal growth by exposing to new ways of thinking, diverse problem-solving approaches, patience and resilience, and unfamiliar cultural perspectives. My current international role at the Global Search & Selection Practice challenges me to adapt swiftly, listen even more actively, communicate across borders, and develop greater emotional intelligence. I have met so many wonderful and talented people across all countries. I have had the opportunity to participate in many global projects with amazing people from all over the world. And it is to YOU that I am most grateful for this development and reflections.

This is certainly what I have found as well as the #ChangeLives Super Ambassador of Gi Group Holding , and I promised myself I would involve as many people as possible so they can grow and develop in the same way.

Have you ever experienced working in an international company? What have you learned, and how has it changed your way of working? Or what is the soft skill that you’ve developed the most? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Great insights, Kasia! I do believe that we should stop calling them "soft" skills: nowadays, all that we call "soft skills" is becoming essential not only in the workpace but also in personal life.

Your analysis is def a Masterpiece, dear Kasia! It is so good that I’m going to save it and to share it with anyone is embracing such a wonderful challenge! Based on my direct global experience, i would underline one point you mentioned: dealing with so diverse cultures and people requires authenticy, genuine curiosity, relentless attitude to “give”… all those soft skills or better “power skills” that you so naturally master. Its kinda you were born for this ??

I really relate to this, Kasia Rudzik. ?? Thanks for sharing! Today, I finished one of our internal programs from the Global Learning Hub. It was a great example of learning from others in a cross-cultural setting. I’m very grateful for the high level of psychological safety in Gi Group Holding, which allows us to participate, share, and learn from each other’s experiences. Also, in our daily interactions, connecting with people like you means learning a lot and having fun along the way. ??
