SIMPLE STEP BY STEP, HOW TO DISSEMBLE AND ASSEMBLE A HP ELITEBOOK 820 G3


1. Computer Selection

2. Specifications:

External Components:

Monitor: 14-inch Full HD Display

Keyboard: HP Spill-resistant Keyboard, with backlight (us)

Mouse: HP Wireless Mouse

Speakers: Built-in Bang & Olufsen speakers

Power Cable: 65W AC Adapter

Internal Components:

Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5-6300u (4-core, 2.40 GHz)

Motherboard: HP, Model 807C

RAM: 8GB DDR4 (SO-DIMM)

Hard Drive: 512GB SSD

Graphics Card: Intel ? HD Graphics 520

Power Supply Unit (PSU): 65W AC Adapter

Cooling Fans: 1x internal cooling fan

Ports: 2x USB 3.0, USB-C, DP Port (Display Port), Ethernet, SD Card Slot, Type C port, and a VGA Port

3. Disassembly Process:

Step 1: Power off the laptop and unplug all cables

·????????? Disconnect the power adapter, mouse, and other peripheral devices.

·????????? Safety Note: Ensure there is no electrical current by waiting for the system to cool down.

Step 2: Remove the back panel

Use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws securing the back panel

Gently lift the panel to expose the internal components.

Step 3: Remove the battery

·????????? Disconnect the battery from its socket

·????????? Unscrew the battery from its housing and gently remove it.


Step 4: Remove RAM

·????????? Unlock the RAM slots by gently pushing the clips on both sides.

·????????? Carefully remove the RAM sticks.

Step 5: Remove the SSD

·????????? Unscrew the SSD mounting bracket.

·????????? Disconnect the SSD from the motherboard and slide it out.

Step 6: Disconnect cables from the motherboard

·??????????? Disconnect any remaining cables, such as the battery, display cable, and power cable.

Step 7: Remove the cooling fan

·????????? Unscrew and carefully remove the cooling fan.

·????????? Clean the fan if necessary and apply fresh thermal paste to the CPU during reassembly.


Step 8: Remove the keyboard.

Disconnect all the cables connecting the keyboard to the motherboard, remove the keyboard locks and remove the keyboard gently. Don’t bend or break the keyboard locks

Step 9: Remove the motherboard

·????????? Unscrew the motherboard

·????????? Ensure all cables attached to the motherboard are disconnected carefully

·????????? Carefully lift the motherboard out of the case.


REASSEMBLY PROCESS:

Step 1: Reinstall the motherboard

·????????? Carefully place the motherboard back into position and screw it into place.

Step 2: Reinstall the cooling fan

·????????? Place the cooling fan back into its mounting bracket and secure it with screws.

·????????? Reconnect the fan’s cable to the motherboard.

Step 3: Reinstall RAM

·????????? Gently insert each RAM stick back into its corresponding slot.

·????????? Ensure the clips lock in place.

Step 4: Reinstall the SSD

·????????? Slide the SSD back into its slot and secure it with screws.

·????????? Reconnect the SSD to the motherboard.

Step 5: Reinstall the battery

·????????? Place the battery back into its compartment and reconnect it to the motherboard.

·????????? Secure the battery with screws.

Step 6: Reconnect all cables

·????????? Reconnect any cables, including the display, power, and front panel connectors.

Step 7: Reattach the back panel

Once downloaded, navigate to the Downloads folder on your computer.

Click the VirtualBox installer in the Downloads folder to start the installation process.

1.Installation Steps:

Step 1: Welcome Screen

Accept the terms in the license agreement and click next.


Customize set up, and click next, However, you can leave them at default settings and just click next

Click yes to Proceed with the installation.


Click install and the installation will start.

Click Finish to complete installation


3.? Creating a Virtual Machine for Windows 8:

a.??Open VirtualBox and click "New" to create a new virtual machine.

Configuration Settings:

b.???? Name: Windows 8

c.???? Type: Microsoft Windows

d.???? Version: Windows 8 (64-bit), and click Next

e.???? Memory: 4096 MB (4 GB)

Since I am installing Windows 8 64-bit in VirtualBox, I can enable EFI only if I want to match the UEFI booting process, but it’s not strictly necessary.

Windows 8 supports both UEFI and legacy BIOS modes, so it can be installed in either mode.

f.????? Hard disk: Create a new virtual hard disk (40 GB).

Set network on the virtual machine to attach to Bridge Adapter to use the physical computer network.

Set up a share folder by selecting share folder, click on new folder, enter the folder path, folder name and click ok

Installing Windows 8 on VirtualBox:

I am using an 8GB flash disk, and I will make it bootable using cmd diskpart, you can as well use other software out there to make the flshdisk bootable like rufus

Making flash disk bootable using cmd dispart.

Open CMD as an administrator by typing cmd on the search start menu as seen below (you can also use other ways like pressing windows key + x > run, or windows key + R)

a)???? Insert USB Flash Drive into your computer.

b)??? Open CMD as Administrator as seen above on the above screen shot

c)???? Type diskpart and press Enter.

d)??? List Disks: Type list disk and press Enter to view all disks.

e)???? Select USB Disk: Type select disk X (replace X with your USB disk number) and press Enter.

f)???? Clean the USB Drive: Type clean and press Enter.

g)??? Create a Partition: Type create partition primary and press Enter.

h)??? Select Partition: Type select partition 1 and press Enter.

i)????? Make Partition Active: Type active and press Enter.

j)????? Format the USB Drive: Type format fs=ntfs quick (for NTFS) or format fs=fat32 quick (for FAT32) and press Enter.

INSTALLING WINDOWS 8.1 X64 TO VM

Attach Bootable Flash Drive

a)??????? With the VM selected, click on Settings.

b)?????? Go to System , > Motherboard, and under the "Boot Order," make sure USB

is at the top.

c)??????? Under Storage, click on the empty optical drive, then on the right side, click on the disk icon and select Add New Device , > USB.

Start the Virtual Machine

a)?? Click Start to begin the installation process.

After starting, the VM will boot from the USB flash drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 8.1, including language settings and partition setup and Complete user account setup.


Complete the Installation

o??? After the installation files are copied, the VM will reboot.

o??? Follow the prompts to complete the setup (username, password, time zone).

Issues and Troubleshooting:

Virtual machine performance was sluggish after installation, I Increased the allocated RAM from 4gb to 6gb and CPU cores for better performance.
