How Instagram is Reworking the Feed by Giving More Power to You- A blog about the new changes being made to the Instagram feed
Instagram is testing new ways for people to have more choice and control over what they see in feed. First, Instagram finally loudly recognised that choice is important to its users - because if you can’t choose how you want to experience an app, how can it feel like yours? (engagement-based ranking is not always the most customised experience)
Second, these changes also aim to address concerns which raised due to the PR crisis last October where former employee Frances Haugen, claimed that Facebook ( Meta) knew its products can cause meaningful harm — including negatively impacting the mental health of teens — but it still has not made major changes to fix such problems.
That's why these tests include three different views on your home screen (two of which will give you the option to see posts in chronological order).
Here is what you will get out of each option
- Home
This is the feed experience you know today, where Instagram ranks content based on how interested they think you are in each post. The evaluations are made based on your previous interactions including likes, saves, comments or even time you consumed on certain types of content. Most people don`t get through most of their feeds so why not help users save time?

- Favorites
The second feed is planned to be called Favorites. It is a subset. It is a list of accounts that you want to make sure you don`t miss things from. You will probably use it for close family, your close friends, your favorite entertainment channels ( don`t forget to put Senstylable on that list:) and content creators. Aims to be as manually personalised as it can get.
- Following
The third one is called Following- and it will be a chronological list of posts from all accounts you follow. However, Home is designed to have more and more recommendations over time.
So finally Instagram chooses to listen to a vast community of experts, users and marketeers who have been insisting on bringing the chronological experience back so that every user can enjoy the latests posts by the accounts they follow. Moreover, this change brings more transparency to the way users are exposed to content ( no more algorithm tricks or scandals)
The tests are already out in some regions, or going out over the next couple of weeks while the full experience is planned to be launched in the first half of the year. So keep an eye and make sure you choose the best option for your needs and personal preferences.
