How to influence buyer behavior

How to influence buyer behavior

Researchers at a university in the United States conducted an experiment to explore the impact of priming on individuals decision making

First of all what is PRIMING? In psychology, priming refers to the process by which exposure to a stimulus influences or prepares an individual's response to a subsequent related stimulus.

Two young men were assigned the task of holding a cup of coffee each, accompanied by books and pens. One cup contained hot coffee, while the other held cold coffee. A group of students was instructed to pass by these individuals on a path as they made their way to read a script for a play.

As the students passed by, the individual with the hot cup of coffee politely asked for assistance in holding the cup while adjusting the books in his hand. Simultaneously, the person with the cold cup of coffee also requested help from a student, asking them to briefly hold the cup while she adjusted her bag.

Now they did not know that this was an experiment. Hahahahah

Upon entering the hall to read the script, the students were asked to evaluate the characters in the play. Interestingly, those who had assisted the person with the hot cup of coffee described the character as warm, understanding, and kind. Conversely, those who had held the cold cup of coffee perceived the character as cold and uncaring.

This experience demonstrated the powerful impact of priming on decision-making, a phenomenon frequently harnessed by top marketers and advertisers to influence consumer choices.

This is to also show that everything matters in sales and marketing

Consider this in your business and marketing endeavors – the colors, images, sounds, and smells that clients experience before purchasing your product or service wield a significant influence on their decisions. Everything from your attire to the location of your business, and even the font and colors you use, contributes to a priming effect that shapes consumer perceptions.

In the realm of sales, communication extends beyond spoken words. It permeates every aspect of the environment, subtly guiding the decisions of potential customers. Recognizing and leveraging these priming effects can significantly enhance the effectiveness of your sales and marketing strategies.

The way you dress is priming

The location of your office is priming

Your zoom meeting background is primimg

The people you’re seen in pictures with on social media is priming

The places you are seen is priming

The smell of your shop is a prime: Notice how supermarkets sprinkle the smell of fresh bread to prime your brain to want bread

Humans are very manipulatable! Use it to your advantage

I trust you find this insight valuable in your business endeavors.
